    Olympus ME-52W Reviews

    ME-52W Noise-Cancelling Microphone is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 63.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Olympus ME-52W canceled I am a sound tech in a church and we use a Olympus Voice recorder to record the pastors messages. We have had 2 other lapel mics that picked up everything, and was it hard to edit out all that they picked up, and some of the time things that did not belong on a church's website. After getting the ME-52W we have not had any more problems with crowd comments, plus, the quality of the voice recorded is much better. The only thing I don't like about it is when the pastor says a word that begins with P it pops even if the windscreen that comes with it is on. Besides that I love the ME-52 W noise canceling microphone. I highly reccomend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lapel Mic Excellent for Interviews The Olympus ME-52 noise-cancelling microphone has several unique features that make it attractive to our particular needs. I am the operations manager of the journalism dept. at a small Christian university, and we have recently upgraded to the BlackMagic Design Pocket Cinema cameras for recording interviews for our weekly student-run newscasts. The BMD cameras have an external mic jack, and I needed an external lapel mic that records with good audio level and quality, reject wind and other noises, and preferably does not require a battery that may die or (worse) leak. The ME-52 detaches from its short 3.5mm cable connector, and I combine it with a Rode 10 ft extension cable. This allows me to put the lapel mic, wind screen, and swiveling lapel clip in a small case, which in turn goes in the BMD case. I keep the Rode extension cable in a separate compartment in the BMD case. The swiveling mic clip is an added bonus: it quickly adapts for male or female shirt lapels, and can be switched easily without detaching for either side of a jacket. Detaching the mic from the cable also aids in routing the cable through clothing. For our purposes, this mic and accessories as such is almost perfect, and the results are excellent (especially for the price).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very effective Works very well with Olympus 702PC recorder. Has clear voice when I am speaking and when others as far away as 30 ft in the open air. Very adjustable. Enables recorder to be in shirt pocket or jacket. Used concealed under shirt too and volume and clarity are great. If the shirt brushes against or hand moves it while recording. the recorder will pick it up. Make sure to get a recorder that has automatic volume control. It's a mono mic. The only minor thing about it that can be improved is the hood is fragile and falls off. I taped the back end of the hood to the mic with painters tape and it's fine. I am glad I got it. It's worth the investment. I recommend this product

Rated 5 out of 5 by from like magic for the price I interview people at industrial construction sites, that are so loud I can barely hear what people are saying. When I play back the interviews I can hear almost exactly what they are saying, clearly and wiht minimum noise. Of coures, I mike them carefully, putting the mike right below their mouth. Amazing for the price. You need a olympus recorder that is compatiable, to power the mike. sound is great for transcribing, thin for broadcast. I had one break after 5 years, but for $, can't complain, new one was defective and B and H replaced it immediately, and replacement works great. Incredible for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great accessory for use with DM-520 I use the DM-520 voice recorder to record my sermons as I present them so I can later upload them to our church's website. I needed a clip-on microphone to use with the recorder to make sure that my sermons were recorded clearly with little background noise. The ME-52W microphone does just that! I appreciate the design of the microphone that allows me to use a longer or shorter cord as needed. In the past I have found that the part of a microphone that always fails is the cord. A failed cord usually results in a repair bill to get the cord replaced. Olympus, by utilizing a plug-in cord system, makes it easy to replace the cord myself. If you have a handheld recorder and need to use it to record a presentation that you give, I highly recommend this microphone as a needed accessory.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Noise Cancellation I use this together with my Olympus WS-331M. In a lecture setting the Microphone gives about 10% more quality than the build-in microphone of my voice recorder. Thats not much but given the physical limitations when recording lectures I am happy about any improvement I can get. I could not make out any noice cancellation qualities. Technically noice cancellation means it detects noise and calculates it away from the incoming signals. The Microphone has no hard and software to accomplish this. However as I mentioned earlier there is a quality improvement. It seems to come from the Microphone being directional which means it focusses on wherever it is pointed at and Background noise from other directions does not reach the the inside of the Microphone.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not a Bad Mic This is not a spectacular mic but more so, basic and quite acceptable for general non critical recording. You will need to play with it to get it's sweet spot for your specifc application. If you are good at editing audio in post ( or have a good audio engineer), you may be able to get away with using it for professional work. Be aware that the frequency response is from 100hz, so don't use it for sounds other voice recording. The low frequencies where some base sounds are, are lower than 10ohz
