FUJIFILM Provia 400X reviews

Fujichrome Provia 400X (RXP III) 35mm Color Slide Film is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 70.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great general purpose film This is a great general-purpose film for snapshots and travel photography. I found color, contrast, and sharpness perfectly acceptable. Plus, you get a 400 speed film, which allows those faster shutter speeds and/or smaller apertures. I shot about a half-dozen rolls of Provia 400X on a recent trip to Europe and was pleased with the results. You're not quite getting 400 speed film with 100 speed quality, but the differences between the two are small enough for you to stand up and take notice. The faster speed allowed me to shoot at a higher aperture on my mid-range zoom and thus achieve a sharper picture than I otherwise would have, all things being equal. I highly recommend this film.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful film This is wonderful film. The color balance produces very realistic results under virtually all conditions for which I use it, and its speed if sufficent to capture clear, hand-held images even in dying light. My only concern is, what with the digital revolution, I won't be able to obtain it as I need it on a long-term basis. The last time I ordered it from B&H, there were only ten rolls available in the entire store. Up to now, I have been happy staying with slide film. I know the world is trying to move me to digital, but it would be ironic if the thing that finally got me there was the inability to continue to be able to acquire sufficient quantities of quality film (like Fujichrome Provia 400X).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great New Film I'm a film user, and I tried this new 400 almost as soon as it came out and it's great. It seems like it gives me the same rich color as a 100, with the added convenience and flexibility.I read on Fuji's technical specs that it pushes up to 1600, which I tried and the results were also just fine. It's definitely my favorite low light/night film for hand holding. Problems Encountered: It's not cheap, but IMHO, it's worth it. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great 400 speed film, Good at 1600 My old standard was Provia 100 and used the old Provia 400 only when needed for the added speed. I have shot Provia 400X this summer as much as my old standby. I have used it at the rated speed and scanned it with great results. I shot some with a 2 stop push to 1600 and was amazed at the quality. I am old enough to remember the old High Speed Ektachrome with a speed of 160. Provia 400X pushed 2 stops to 1600 was about the same as some of my old shots on HS Ektachrome pushed to 400.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful film Beautiful right up to 1600. Color temperature range that can't be mimicked by digital cameras... Which is why I still use it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Action and low-light must I prefer to use the slower films such as Provia 100 and Velvia. However, this film has surprisingly good grain and color accuracy for a film of its speed. I find it great for action shots where a short exposure time is required or in existing light situations where hand-held shots would be problematic with lower ISO films. It's also helpful in maintaining shorter exposures or in minimizing loss of depth-of-field when using polarizing filters with hand-held shots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Secret Weapon - Low Light Wildlife Shots The pre-dawn and after sunset hours in the Colorado Rockies are when I often see the most interesting wildlife. I love Fuji Velvia film but 50 or 100 ASA film just isn't fast enough to capture low-light images with my Canon 100-400mm lens. So, I load the Provia 400 X film and shoot it at 1600. Works like a charm. Color and sharpness are excellent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Provia 400X a Considerable Improvement Used for wildlife photography. It provides enough speed for sharp images of moving subjects with my largest telephoto (Nikor 600 mm. F4 AF-S I), and still delivers excellent color renditions and improved grain character compared to its predecessor. I still do traditional slide programs with the mounted frames.
