Mackie HR824mk2 overview

  • 1Description

The HR824mk2 from Mackie is a high-quality active two-way studio monitor, perfect for stereo or surround mixing applications. The monitor is THX pm3-certified, great for creating high-definition audio for video, film, and video game projects. The monitor has an 8.75" low-distortion woofer and a 1" titanium dome tweeter to provide clear, lifelike sound across a full frequency spectrum. Internal amplifiers provide 250W of total power for a strong performance

The cast-aluminum Zero Edge Baffle keeps diffraction to a minimum for excellent imaging, while the optimized waveguide provides a wide sweet spot, and the internal cabinet damping eliminates midrange artifacts. The cabinet is OmniMount ready, allowing it to be mounted easily on a wall or ceiling.

The rear panel of the cabinet has XLR, TRS, and RCA input connectors for compatibility with virtually any audio gear you can throw at it. Controls for LF and HF filters, along with acoustic space matching allow you to customize the monitor to your specific workspace for optimum performance.

    Mackie HR824mk2 reviews

    HR824mk2 - 250W 8.75" Two-Way Active Studio Monitor is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Balance between Hifi and Studio Using the speakers for house music production where low end is very important. Coming from a pair of KRKs that were really lacking in the low range, I am extremely pleased with the Mackies. They are quite large, bigger than I expected but look really nice. They can go quite loud with ease and work great at lower level providing a nice deepness and soft sound. The tweeters sounded a bit odd to me at first but now I think I have already adapted. There are multiple settings in the back that allow you to adjust to the level you are most comfortable with. Overall a great product and received less than two days after I ordered it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More of the same...& that's a good thing I've owned a pair of the original HR824s for six years now and have used them daily. I purchased three HR824mk2's to make a 5.1 system for monitoring and entertainment. I use the original HR824s as the surrounds. The sound is nearly identical to my ears. The bass below 80Hz might be tighter, but that's the only sonic difference I can tell. The new look will probably appeal to most folks with the nice gloss black finish. I still like the old vinyl laminate for no other reason than familiarity. The rear panel is identical to the HR824 so there is no learning curve for owners of the old monitors. If an HR824mk3 is released, I would not hesitate to purchase a setup six more years down the road.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW...I was mixing under water! I must admit, I've been using Prolinear 720's, which was all I could afford at the time. And with the help of a BIG KNOB, I was able to have both sets of monitors connected simultaneously. So, I opened a DAW file with the Prolinear's a good hot volume level...then punched in the HR's... You figure you pay a certain amount for a pair of speakers, they better sound good...well, sound good they did! I can't really articulate the awe of that moment...saying I was blown away is not a strong enough expression. I have to say, after the initial shock...and switching the source back and Prolinear's sounded like they were playing under water... The HR's give me confidence in saying I have a recording studio! I must admit, I've only been using the HR's for about a month and I still have yet to acclimate my ears to them to produce multi-device friendly mixes...but I can't imagine a more enjoyable way to get there! I'd like to add that some reviews I read before I got the HR's listed their 35 lb weight per speaker as a CON...honestly, I can't imagine a speaker lighter than these putting out like the HR's...not a CON as far as I'm concerned...I'd be likely to attribute the weight to some very intentional quality components... The sound of the HR's is just absolutely amazing! Incredible low end capacity and a -2db and +2db switch for the Hi's...
