What is the trick to removing the factory eyepiece ring on the Nikon D5? Mine does not easily unscrew. Am I missing a lock or something?
You have to close the viewfinder shutter to remove the eyepiece.

Depending on your camera model, there may be a small switch next to the eyepiece you need to flick to unlock the eyepiece. You can also consult the camera manufacturer or your camera manual if you are unsure.

Does it comes with the glass in the center?
It does not have a glass in the center. I recommend getting an additional Nikon DK-17 to use on the AquaTech NEP-1. It is very hard to get the DK-17 unscrewed from the NEP-1 after putting them together. In the event of foul weather you will not want to risk getting water in the view finder fooling around trying to switch these out. Just get an extra Nikon eyepiece. You also will not want to leave the NEP-1 on the camera, it is plastic and could risk breakage during normal use and carrying the camera without the weather shield.
