Impact VSD-300 overview

  • 1Description

The Impact Digital Monolight 300Ws as part of the VSD Series of monolights is proof that a 300 watt-second monolight does not need to be expensive. The VSD300 provides enough stored power to easily light a portrait or small still-life setup. It has features found on monolights that cost twice as much.

This monolight has a digital readout coupled with its four-stop power variator. It accepts S-type monolight reflectors and head accessories. The VSD300 has cushioned touch-pad function control buttons. Power is adjustable in 1/10 stop increments, from full to 1/8 power. Its modeling light intensity may be controlled coupled to, or independent from, the strobe power levels you select.

The VSD300 is available as part of several complete lighting kits. A slightly more powerful version of this light is the VSD400.

This monolight has a limited auto-dump feature, which automatically fires the strobe when you reset to a lower power level.
Built-in optical slave sees the light from other flashes, and fires this monolight automatically.
A Sync cord with miniplug to PC connection is included.
Its recycle beep tone may be switched on or off.

    Impact VSD-300 reviews

Digital Monolight 300Ws is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 83.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nice for the price I already own a flash set but needed another to take portraits, so I went with a kit of 2 VSD300 and softboxes. The other kit is huge and more or less transportable. So I dit the setup a way my assistant could use it for corporate portraits. We took a couple of pictures, round 800 with them and worked fine. They're easy to setup, digital display is perfect and they have every thing you can expect from more expensive brands, plus they are small. Everything was going fine until this week. One is not powering up anymore, the other one got only pilot light but no flash even with spare bulb. So I have to check the warranty.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from very good product i purchased the kit with 2 VSD300's, soft boxes, and stands about 6 months ago and i am very happy with them. They provide enough power to light a 3 person portrait easily and the soft boxes make it easy to do single portraits the only recommendations i would make is to get an umbrella and some sand bags for the stands. When extended past 4.5 feet, they begin to slightly wobble, nothing bad if you are doing still life work, but if you are doing portraits of kids or what not, you should always have sand bags weighing your equipment down. Nothing says oh no like the sound of all your studio equipment crashing to the ground

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it I have been working with Bowens for the last 10 years; lately I was getting tired of the price since I travel a lot and sometimes my flashes get damaged. I did not know this label so I really took a risk; it was cheaper than Bowens so I expected less quality. I bought two 300w/s flashes and I am happily surprised by the quality so far. It's almost half of the price, lighter so I can easily carry it with me, it looks awesome also. it's better than I expected. So far I do not know if it's gonna last as Bowens does.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy with this light This is my first (two) monolight purchases but i was surprised and expected less than i got with this light for the money. A youtube review comparing it to others of the same entry level got me to try it and i'm keeping both. Powerful light which for my individual portrait work gets turned down quite a bit. Recycle time is just fine and i like the beep telling me it's ready. The build quality seems good- has a sort of rubbery finish that i like. You don't use these lights by themselves- you put modifiers on so the Bowens mount will give me the broadest choice. I would recommed based upon 1 month of ownership.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from On the fence I bought this product based on a few online reviews stating that this was a great entry level strobe product. Upon initial setup, I was impressed with the quality and feel of the design, the back settings are user friendly, and the light is powerful and responsive. However, the top grey tab to secure modifiers was already broken off and rattling at the bottom of my packaging, and based on other reviews on here, it's a flimsy feature build. I'm not entirely confident that my expensive compatible modifiers are sufficiently secured onto this device any more, but with extensive custom charges and the long return process at B&H, I feel stuck with trying to make the most of a fairly expensive, poorly delivered product. I really wish something as important as the security of your modifiers was more of a strength here, but I unfortunately can't say that I can recommend this starter strobe kit.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolute Garbage! I would rate this 0 stars if I could. It arrived non-functional. I only purchased it as a replacement for another Impact light, that died after just over a year of minimal use. The Impact light kit has been a nightmare, since day one. They only fire four of five shutter releases, they provide inconsistent light and they won't lock in place, regardless of the modifier attached to them. They are a complete and total waste of money and I will never buy another product from Impact.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great choice at a great price I am new to photography (taking the Professional course with New York Institute of Photography)and have arrived at the part of the study dealing with artificial lighting. Needing to move up from the hardware store flood lights, I consulted with the helpful folks at B and H and decided on the Impact Digital Monolight kit (two 300 w/s lights and one 100 w/s light). The lights, with their modeling lights have simplified the class material and brought it to life. Obviously, as a new comer to photography, I didn't have a bundle of money to spend, which turned out to be good. The learning curve on the three lights is not overwhelming and the results are very pleasing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product I am a semi-professional photographer who was looking for a modest ligthing set-up that would help me to do the job without doing all of the job for me. I purchased two of these as part of a three light kit here from B and H with the intent of using them with my brand new Canon 6D and 24-70 2.9 lens. The results are very much satisfactory. I've attached some images that I took against some white seamless paper pretty much right out of the box, first time out.
