Steel vs. aluminum cine stands

I've placed multiple orders for steel junior cine stands for use with continuous lighting during film production. Although they are not as compact to store or as light to transport as aluminum stands, in daily use the steel stands are more solid feeling and durable especially for heavy key lights or for use with boom attachments. Over time the compression/friction materials in the extension joints hold up better resulting in firmer attachment and a quieter set. Add shot bags or cable guys for extra security. The leveling leg is a nice convenience while the stand is placed on an uneven or sloping surface. Multiple stands can be used in conjunction with large frames for shade or reflector material. They work better than lighweight aluminum for off-center lighting accessories such as softboxes or lightbanks.
