The XLogic Channel (Super Analogue) from Solid State Logic, is a 1U rack mounting microphone preamp containing a complete set of signal processing from the XL 9000 mixer channel strip. This includes the input section, compressor/limiter, expander/gate, high- and low-pass filters and equalizer.
The compressor/limiter and an expander/gate both use the same gain change element, and both sections work independently. Both can be operational at the same time, providing sophisticated control of signal levels. The filter and/or the EQ section can be assigned to the dynamics side chain, thereby allowing for de-essing, etc.
The four-band EQ can be switched between two sets of curves, one based on SSL's G Series EQ, the other based on the latest version of the classic E Series EQ. The HF and LF sections provide shelving equalizers with variable turnover frequency. Normally the curve has a degree of overshoot/undershoot, below/above the selected frequency, depending on whether the EQ is being boosted or cut. Selecting the "E" button removes the overshoot/undershoot effect and provides a slightly gentler slope. Selecting "Bell" in either mode switches the equalizer to a peaking curve.
The Output section consists of a +/-20dB output gain control, indented at centre and a seven-segment LED meter. Normally the meter reads the output of the channel, but selecting "MTR Input" will meter the signal immediately post the input section. An optional ADC card is available to provide an additional digital audio output.
