    Bower SFD35 reviews

SFD35 Digital Flash for Canon Cameras is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 118.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great flash About the only flaw I can think of when it comes to this flash is the lack of auto adjusting for zoom range, and lack of any manual control, but using ETTL-II, it's not hard to get it right. I guess I could say something about its durability too, because it feels cheap...but it is. This sync's up great with my XSi 450D and I added a sto-fen OM-C diffuser which really makes my shots look great. The swivel head is fantastic and I couldn't do without it. I'm sure there are some reasons to go with a better flash if you're a pro, but if you're a relative amateur and just want to get much better shots, go for it and get this flash.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good back-up/starter flash I bought this flash primarily because of the price and the fact that I needed it for work. I tend to steer clear of the flash for personal photography. I've used this flash at sporting events twice now and have been please with the results I've gotten. Quick flash firing, easy to adjust to different speeds and distances (manual takes some getting used to). The only thing that I do not like is the adjustments on the back panel, they're a little chinsey. But for the price, all around it's a great starter flash to hold you over until you get the money for a better, more pricey one, then this can be used as a back up.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not bad for the price It is a replacement for my other flash (different brand) which died as soon as the warranty expired. Battery compartment door need a big improvement, seems it is going to break when being closed. Shoe mount is so flimsy. The E-TTL is not compatible with Canon XSi. Inconsistent output even the E-TTL light on when fired. Has not used many times yet, still have long to go to proof its durability. It has good power but unfortunately it does not cover 18 mm wide angle lens even I had a diffuser lens installed (from my other flash) I would give 4 stars if the E-TTL works every shot and 5 stars for better quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bower Digital Flash Works Very Well I've become a strobist recently...learning about off-camera lighting in a class I'm taking at the local art college. My ancient Speedlite works fine in manual setting, but I really wished for a second flash--one with TTL capability. Budget is always an issue, and I shopped solely on price, knowing that B&H offers quality items, even when they are less expensive choices. This flash works perfectly for me, both on and off the camera. It does not have the most rugged construction, so if you are hard on your gear, there may be a better choice out there for you. Because of my budget limitations, I have to handle everything with care. The main thing is that this flash fires, correctly, every time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wouldnt Sync with XSI I bought this trying to save a couple of dollars and I guess I should have expected what I got. The reviews were great but when I hooked it up to my XSI it would not sync with the shutter no matter how fast or slow i set the shutter speed. It fired every time and recovered quickly but it just didnt produce any light on the picture. It may have just been a bad unit and I am sending it back at my expense but Im finnaly buying into the idea of if you have a canon, go with canon. Im getting a canon flash now and paying the extra for the quality control.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple reliable flash at a great price. I got this flash based upon the reviews of others. I am going to add to what the others say: great extra flash, great price, and solid, tilt, and Focus of flash. Works well with my Canon xti and my lenses (28-80macro & 70-200L). I didn't notice any problems with the recycling rate of the flash with new batteries the flash was ready when I was. Here is what is not listed in the other reviews. this flash reminds me of a flash of 10 years ago. On the back side is a sliding bar that lets you choose the distance for the flash to work correctly. It took me about 20 minutes to figure out how to correctly gauge the distance for all the lenses. If you are looking for a flash with a brain to automatically figure out the distance, brightness, ect. This is not the flash for you. But this flash is great. Simple reliable flash at a great price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good for the price Flash seems to work reasonably well, I haven't used it a lot but my test shots appear to be correctly exposed. Build quality is not as good as a Canon, or even the Promaster I had previously, but is acceptable for the price. Capacitor whine is a little louder than the promaster too; not sure if there's not as much insulation, or lower-quality capacitors, or ?? All in all, I wouldn't count on this flash if I were a pro, but as a hobbyist on a budget it's great so far. I'm using it with a Canon XSi. Note that there does not appear to be any way to update the firmware on the flash. If this is in fact the case, it may become obsolete if/when Canon updates to eTTL 3 or whatever (this happened to me with my previous flash, it's why i bought this one). For the price I consider this acceptable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can't beat the flash for the price. I have two of these. I use them off camera for portraits and for event photography such as weddings, sweet 16's, etc. I definitely recommend if you're on a budget and can't afford the higher end canon flashes. The only problem I have is it's slow recycle time. Sometimes it takes 10 or more seconds to get it back to full power. But hey, you can't beat the price and the quality for the money you get Compare...$...4-500 bucks. Definitely save up for the better flash, but if you need something now, affordable, definitely get this flash.
