    Audio-Technica Pro-24CM reviews

    Pro-24CM - Stereo Microphone is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 123.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Compact and rugged, but needs more gain This is a great, small, compact and rugged mic. As usual with AT stuff the mic itself is metal and of very good construction. The shoe mount works well, although I probably wouldn't trust the plastic threads for a tripod mount. Major issue is that the mic needs quite a bit of gain directly on the DSLR. When paired with my Sony MD Recorder it sounds great, especially for life music. When trying to capture ambient sounds and conversations directly on the DSLR (I am using a D7000) there is a very high noise floor. I have been able to compensate for it in post, but that takes time and effort and I am notoriously lazy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pro-24CM - Compact and Very good quality I bought this mic to provide decent sound quality at high volume levels and also to eliminate any fan noise on my Panasonic TM700 camcorder. This mic will handle 118db (20db over the comparable Azden SMX-10) and it has pretty good frequency response for such a low price. The fan noise is pretty much inaudible when taping acoustic guitar at low volumes since this mic sets a couple of inches away from the camera.I tape my son's rock band (@) and this mic can take the high sound pressure levels. An added bonus is that it is short enough that it does not appear in the frame when my camcorder is zoomed out to 35mm.All in all, very nice addition!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fits my intended use very well. Purchased the microphone for use with my Canon FS-10 camcorder. Seems to work quite well so far. Good sound quality. Included windscreen is a big improvement over the built-it windscreen option on the camcorder's internal microphone. Light-weight, easy to use and pack along. I also use the cold shoe adapter to mount the microphone to the camcorder and then onto my tripod. I've looked far and wide for a resonably priced external, self-powered, stereo microphone to use with my camcorder. This is the only one I've found. Will also up this microphone to record background tracks and other audio recordings directly to my laptop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Excellent Microphone for Camcorders! I read all about the other camcorder microphones out there but this one suited my needs the best. Most add-on camcorder microphones such as the Videomic are not stereo. The few good-quality mics that are stereo are very expensive and too large. This often over-looked stereo microphone has superb sound, is very small, rugged and also lightweight. I use the Pro-24CM mounted with a cold shoe adapter on my Sony HDR-SR11 and the sound is CD-quality. I shoot promotional videos for musicians and the sound with this mic is superb. For under $100 you cannot find a camcorder microphone with better sound or build quality. Be sure to turn the ALC off and the mic setting to Low level on the Sony SR11/12 series cameras for recording live music with this microphone.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little mic for the price. I bought this mic to use for film school projects. I have a fairly low grade, basic camcorder and I picked up this mic to be able to use the camera as an audio deck. Even though my camcorder doesn't have a display for audio levels, I was nervous while taping, the audio sounded good. I shot outdoors at a protest rally and was able to get a great ambient sound as well as focused sound for interviews, with no wind noise. I'm not an audio professional, but this microphone does exactly what I need it to do, record clean sound for my media work. As a student, the price was right for me. There is no battery level indication on this mic which would be nice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK I was looking for a quality, affordable, lightweight camcorder stereo mike with an integrated shock mount for my Sony SR-11. The Pro-24CM fits the bill nicely. It's not quite as crisp and punchy as the Sennheiser and the Rode but it's darn close. A great little mike for the price. Bottom line: For the same price you would pay for a junk Sony handycam mike you get a prosumer quality camcorder microphone that will improve your camcorder's audio while minimizing wind and handling noise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Tiny Powerful Punch Im currently an amateur photographer/filmer but am trying to move up the ranks...this mic is helping me accomplish this feat. I use it to film action sports, concerts, music videos, and commercials. It has everything i need and is really compact and lightweight. The only downside to it is that it runs off of small batteries but i just circumvented this by buying a bulk pack of 50. Definitely invest in this!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent microphone for the money I needed a good microphone for my JVC GR-DV500US. After really taking a look at the videos I've shot over the years on it, I came to realize just how awful the on-board mic is on the camcorder. It has a mic input which is a godsend on any camcorder, so I figured I might as well finally put it to good use. The problem was deciding which kind of mic I needed. I decided to go with a stereo mic since I found out shotguns were mono sound. I am by no means a pro, just an enthusiast looking to shoot good video. Price was another problem. I got some serious sticker shock seeing how much camcorder mics go for. After months of research, I finally came across this particular mic. It didn't seem too large, it had a metal body, and the price was more than reasonable. But how was the sound? I wound up finding an electronics test site that had a video review of the mic and I was impressed by the sound quality and the reduction of background noise in the review. I decided to run over to B&H and grab the mic. I also got a Bescor VB-50 bracket so I had setup for the mic and my video light. I shot some footage in midtown Manhattan after Sunday mass on Easter along Park Avenue and in a little park across the street from Macy's. The sound was a major step up to say the least. Depsite the usual hustle and bustle of NYC streets, the sounds were a lot clearer and the annoying background noise was greatly reduced. Overall, this is a very good microphone if you want to improve the sound in your videos.
