These have been critical to keeping my mini tripods from falling over and smashing my Sony a7RV and Sony 20mm f1.8 G lens onto whatever hard objects I'm shooting (and to protecting the objects!). I usually clamp the weight to the hind leg, leaning the weight to match the angle of the leg, doing my best to avoid crushing the mechanism inside the leg (which has fortunately never happened), and sometimes additionally securing the weight to the leg with a mini bungee cord.

The Manfrotto 022 Counter Balance Weight - 15 lbs, B&H # MA022, can clamp onto a pole with a diameter between 0.86 inches to 1.4 inches (22mm to 35mm). It would not open large enough to work with a truss with a 50mm diameter.

Yes, but you would have to take it off when folding the stand. I suggest to attache it to the center pole as low as possible for best result.
