172 Counter Balance Weight - 3 lbs is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, compact, dense Compact and dense. I wanted it to stabilize a light stand with a big umbrella on top which makes it unstable in one direction. I did not want to use a sandbag. I wanted to clamp something on firmly, unable to slip. I set up the lightstand with one leg pointing opposite the 60 inch umbrella and then clamp this to the underside of that forward leg so it just clears the floor. That low weight at the end of the extended lightstand leg makes the entire setup quite stable even with a large umbrella. Useful amounts of general purpose, clamp-on weight in a small package. Cons? It's heavy of course.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Weight For Camera Strobes Purchased this weight for use on lightweight 6-8' stands when using my portable, Canon 600EX's, in the field. They provide enough stabilty when shooting outdoors, without needing an assistant to carry the extra weight. Also, they don't slide off like bag weights, and are perfectly centered when attached! Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've Put On A Little Weight... This is a nice little weight. The mechanism holds well and the bright orange color warns people that it's there. It responds properly under the effect of gravity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great weight. This fits on my 190CXPRO4 tripod to balance my camera when I have if on the horizontal arm. It is well made and distinctive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the Trick! --- Great Option for Cheap I'm using this as a counterweight for my shoulder rig. I have a rail extending past my shoulder and I just tighten this weight onto the end of it. It gets the job done and it's definitely a much cheaper option than other counterweights that are designed specifically to be mounted onto rails. It's snug enough that I don't think it'll ever come off during use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth The Weight! The 172 Counter Balance is three pounds of well designed clamp on auxililiary weight. The clamp is adjustable to fit 5/8 tubing on the small end and 1-1/4 tubing on the large end. Bright orange in color is not a bad idea to help keep folks from walking into this hefty little lump of cast iron, or bumping it into a customer's antiques.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a weight Extremely rugged for its application. Great counterbalance. Holds up a Bxri 250 strobe on a 9 ft (2.72 meter) boom stand. You will laugh when you get the box, it's so over-sized for what is in it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this boom counter balance again. Fairly heavy and has a secure clamp. Yes, I would buy this boom counter balance again. In fact, I did buy it again when I needed a greater counter balance on my boom arm.
