Sony 16-105mm f/3.5-5.6 overview

  • 1Description

An ideal everyday tool, the DT 16-105mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens from Sony is a relatively compact APS-C format option that covers a vast wide-angle to telephoto range equivalent to 24-157.5mm. This A-mount lens features a maximum aperture of f/3.5-5.6, helping to keep size and weight to a minimum, and the optical design incorporates one extra-low dispersion element and two aspherical elements to combat aberrations and increase sharpness and contrast. Also, it has an auto clutch mechanism that prevents the focusing ring from rotating when autofocus is engaged while an internal focus design enables fast, responsive AF. Additionally, it uses a seven-blade circular diaphragm for smooth bokeh.

Designed for APS-C cameras, this lens provides a wide-angle to telephoto zoom range equivalent to 24-157.5mm.
A maximum aperture range of f/3.5-5.6 helps keep the lens relatively compact while providing control over depth of field.
One extra-low dispersion element reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations while two aspherical elements control spherical aberrations for improved clarity and sharpness.
An Auto Clutch mechanism prevents the focusing ring from rotating when the lens is set to autofocus, allowing for easier, and more natural feeling control over the lens.
An internal focus design helps optimize the autofocus system for faster, more reliable focusing. It can also focus as close as 15.7" with a maximum magnification of 0.23x.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

    Sony 16-105mm f/3.5-5.6 reviews

    DT 16-105mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent range and image quality lens After a long research of lens reviews. I finally made my decision to buy this lens.I considered the 18-250 range of either Sony or Sigma but I know that this range has compromises. B&H has this lens on sale... and this helped me decide to buy this lens. I always buy my photo equipments at B&H for the past 17 yrs. After testing this lens, I am not disappointed and even exceeded my standards for a lens of this range. Two days ago, I used this lens with my A700 and HVL58-am on a church activities and the results were excellent!!! I just wish that this lens has a constant aperture of f4 or f4.5

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great lens for panoramics I consider myself an advanced consumer and the following is my review of using this lens with a A550 camera. The lens has good light gathering capabilities. I would have preferred it to be a little faster, but at f/3.5, it meets my current needs. The pictures are sharp and the colors are true. I have taken some pictures which are destined to be blown up and will go up on a wall. I have notices lens-creep, if you carry the camera with the lens pointed downwards. Also at 16mm there is some vignetting if you screw on a CPL. I was a little surprised at the lens-creep, but did expect the vignetting. I already have a UV filter also on the lens. With just one filter, I did not experience any vignetting. I can deal with these, but buyers should be aware of this as they consider this lens for purchase. Overall, I am satisfied with this lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Work Horse Lens I bought this as a replacement for my Zeiss 16/80mm that I dropped and it couldn't be repaired. I debated on whether to go with the same as what I had or the Sony which is $250 cheaper and has an extra 25mm in focal length. This is a very good lens and the sharpness difference is minimal. the zoom mechanism isn't quite as smooth but that's really nitpicking. I would recommend this lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Fine Lens A very fine all around lens. Crisp sharp images with excellent color. I use it for Landscape, close up in Air Craft Museums, and just plane and simple everyday photography. It's 16-105 MM range covers most any type of photography and is very consistent. I would recommend this lens to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very nice lens I'm just getting used to this lens. I mount it on the sony a65. Previously I've had the 16-50 fixed f-stop. (which I Love) on my a65. The 16-105 is a fast focus and very sharp. It increases the range, and is a well-built lens. I will use it for landscape and possibly portraits. So far, I'm very pleased and I would definitely recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT PERFORMANCE Bought this to use on vacation in lieu of my 18-55. Substantial construction. Beautiful color on landscapes.....even photographed whales breaching and got pretty good detail. Didn't let me use shutter in some auto modes, but in manual, even for an amateur like me, a good all around lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sharp, great travel lens I bouigh this lens with Sony DSLR-350 as kit. I wanted to have a light, small travel SLR camera and lanes. It is a great value and lens delivers on on its promise. It is sharp and good value for the money

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The work house in my camera Bag I use in in Events, Street Photos, Sports and Fast action assignments. I can focus at 16mm and zoom in on detail very quickly without losing anything, and can do it fast. Not good enough for me for Movies, and portraits
