The ReadyNAS NV+ 4-Bay Gigabit Desktop Network Storage Enclosure from Netgear is a 4-bay network hard drive array enclosure. It features a Gigabit Ethernet interface, RAID data protection, UPnP AV streaming, and an integrated backup manager. Up to four SATA drives can be installed in the enclosure, which supports Windows, Mac, Linux, and UNIX clients, making it an excellent option for small business networks.

RAID Data Protection
The array can be configured in RAID 0, RAID 1, and RAID 5 configurations. RAID 0 provides the fastest access to your data and full storage capacity, but offers no protection in the event of an internal disk failure. RAID 1 mirrors all the data, cutting the storage capacity in half, but ensuring that data will be intact if a drive fails. RAID 5 gives you 75% of the total capacity by using space to store parity data. If an internal drive fails, you can rebuild the data using the parity data once a new drive is installed.
Backup Features
The ReadyNAS NV+ ships with EMC Retrospect backup software for Windows and Mac. The software allows you to create automatic backups of data stored on network clients, regardless of operating platform. You can even transfer data from the array directly to external USB drives, allowing you to quickly create portable backups that can be stored off-site.
X-RAID Scalability
Netgear's X-RAID technology allows you to adjust the capacity of your RAID as your storage needs increase. You'll be able to replace individual drive modules with larger disks, without having to recreate your array from scratch. This gives businesses a truly future-proof RAID solution.
Gigabit Ethernet Interface
The Gigabit Ethernet interface allows users to access data and administrators to administer the drive remotely through a standard LAN connection, making it easy to add to your existing network infrastructure.
