The FireStudio Project from Presonus is a complete computer recording solution for both the Mac and Windows based computer. The system comprises a 10 input/10 output FireWire interface with 8 Class A preamps, control software, and stereo S/PDIF input and output.

Geared towards the professional project studio, live sound recording or live performance, the system provides high quality audio, along with a great deal of flexibility. The FireControl Mixer/Router software can send up to five individual mixes to different musicians during recording, allowing each band member to have a custom headphone mix.

The first two inputs can be used as instrument inputs. These two channels are also fitted with dedicated sends and returns, for inserting outboard hardware processors, such as compressors or EQ. Three-segment LED input metering is available on all analog channels.

The interface is bundled with the Studio One Artist DAW software for Mac OS X, and Windows and includes 30 PreSonus Native Effects plug-ins, 5 virtual instruments, third-party loops, and the DAW software.

FireStudio Project - FireWire Recording System is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Audio Interface I got two of these FireStudio Projects late last year to have 16 mic preamps to record live bands. I am also using the Studio One DAW software that comes with the unit. What a terrific combination. I have both FSP's daisy chained on Firewire to my Lenovo T500 built-in FW port and it all works perfectly even at 96Kbps with all 16 channels recording. I have recorded a 16 piece swing and pop band and was amazed at the dynamic range I had on the brass, saxes and drums. Really smile inducing. I got the FSP units on sale with a rebate for the S1 Pro version and bought that. Let me say the S1 Pro version is worth it to be able to record, mix and master all in one package.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FireStudio Project ROCKS! I bought it for my home studio and to record my drums in a multi-track environment. I love it. Plenty of headroom, great sounding pre-amps, easy to set up and I like the chain-ability. I was using an older Presonus 2 channel Firebox, great little box but only 2 inputs. It's nice to have 8. The only little complaint is their website isn't good about identifying the right driver version for your OS version. I'm still on MAC OSX 10.7 and the driver listed only works on 10.9 and up (something like that). You have to do some poking around to find the legacy driver versions. Once that was accomplished the unit worked like a champ. I will be getting a second unit fairly soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crystal Clear! The FireStudio Project is a high quality, user-friendly interface that provides crystal clear recordings despite low grade microphones. I had no issues whatsoever installing the drivers and connecting it with my mac for the first time, and was able to use it immediately without much reference to the manual. The signal strength leaves a bit to be desired, however, not so much as to deter me from using it for serious home projects, or even for semi-professional tracking. I would probably recommend running the outputs through a preamp to boost the signal. Overall, very pleased and satisfied!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Firestudio Project A HUGE HIT I must say building a Recording Studio has been a challenge on many levels and noise is my #1 enemy. I had 2 other pieces prior to this purchase, I always had some noise I believed it to be electrical...UNTIL I hooked up the Firestudio. As soon as I plugged in the AKG Perception 420 mic and MXL V6 microphones. Immediately the noises that I have been dealing with were immediately gone. This product has truly transformed my analog studio into a truly state of the art digital recording studio. Thank You Presonus!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works pretty well, some problems Own three of them. Have had to have them serviced every two years when the power supply thing fails, also sometimes connectivity issue with Mac OSX 10.6.8 and older. Pots are dirty and scratch a bit. Otherwise the build is very good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great interface for a big job I purchased this interface to edit 5.1 surround sound in Sound Track Pro. It worked great. I outputed to 5 active speakers plus a sub woofer. I would recommend this to a friend

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Interface, great price I use this to record projects on Studio One. The preamps are the best in this price-range and the interface is really well built. It's also great to be able to cascade them, although I have never tried. It is not small, but definitely as small as it gets with that many in/outs. It is lightweight enough to allow carrying it easily, and its aluminium chassis is very well built. I can hardly see it failing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent value and quality build I use the FireStudio Project in a home studio setup to add more versatility where I was just using an M-Audio ProFire 610 before. The ProFire 610 effectively has four analog inputs, while the FireStudio Project unit has eight. I was able to add the FireStudio Project daisy-chained into the ProFire 610 (which has a second firewire port), and did not have to uninstall the ProFire 610 from my computer. However, due to limitations of Windows, you can only designate one or the other to act as your computer's sound card. While my DAW allows me to assign a track's inputs and outputs to any port on both units at the same time, I have to choose one machine or the other to be where the sound goes that Windows itself generates (i.e. the sound coming from apps like iTunes, Windows Media Player, a web browser, etc.). In addition, and more problematically, the Windows ASIO driver will only allow one machine to be the designated ASIO output. Thus, I set the FireStudio Project to use the low-latency ASIO driver while I must use the higher-latency WDM driver for the ProFire 610. People have been asking for the Windows ASIO driver to be improved for years, to no avail. This is not PreSonus' fault, and if this will be your system's only sound interface, you will have no issue. As for the FireStudio's build quality, it is superb. This is a solid unit that mounts sturdily into the rack, the input jacks grab the plugs firmly, and the knobs are metal with a very strong feel and many detents that let you make settings with a high degree of accuracy. You can set the mic pre inputs to provide phantom power in pairs of two inputs using a button on the front, which allows you to easily change configurations around depending on what you need to record at the time. I have used them for recording from both microphones and line inputs such as keyboards and radios, with excellent results. (It also comes with DAW software, but I don't use it so I can't comment on it.) I look forward to using the FireStudio Project for many years to come.
