This SLIK Pro 500 DX Tripod with SH-705E 3-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head supports up to 11.0 lb, measures 27.4" when folded, and includes a quick release plate. Each of its 3-section legs features an independent spread, a 3-position angle lock, and flip locks for fast deployment. The included push-and-pull, rapid center column is multi-sectional, which allows it to be converted to a shortened center column. This feature permits a minimum height of 19.8" or 13.8" when the center column is shortened. The SLIK Pro 500 DX Tripod provides a maximum height of 53.8", 58.0" with its center column shortened as well as fully raised, and 64.0" with the complete column fully raised.

Cameras, sport optics, or camcorders that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the quick release plate, which is secured to the tripod's pan-and-tilt head using a quick release cam lock. The head can be rotated 360°, and tilted 90° backwards or forwards, as well as sideways for portrait orientation. Each of these three movements function independently of each other and can be locked into place.

For added versatility, the center column is reversible, facilitating low-angle photography where an attached camera is positioned among the tripod's legs instead of above them. Foam covers on each of the legs provide a secure and comfortable grip while moving the tripod, and rubber feet help to enhance stability on a wide variety of surfaces.

    Pro 500 DX Tripod with SH-705E 3-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 103.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tripod and value. I am very happy with this tripod. It is excellent quality, sturdy and has a great feel to it. It is a little bit heavy, but not excessively. They don't always say so, but the center column is reversible, which is nice. I originally bought a Slik 700DX, only I did not like the round quick release plate (it would rotate and let my camera lens sag when in the vertical position) so I exchanged it for the 500DX. The 500DX is almost identical (except only 64 instead of 74), but is less massive and has a good solid, square quick release plate. I am much happier with the 500DX.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple and Strong This tripod is very strong and stable, and sets up fast. It works great for general purpose DSLR shooting where time and space are tight. While it's not the lightest model available, it's pretty easy to transport, and the foam padding on the legs makes it comfortable to carry over your shoulder. My only minor complaint is that one of the tilt/adjust handles must be removed and threaded into the other in order to put the tripod into the supplied carrying bag. Not a huge issue, but a little added time in packing/unpacking. Generally, I wouldn't carry it in the bag when going to a shoot, but when I do pack it, it's a small frustration.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Price may be low but the quality is high After a lot of investigation and reading reviews of many tri pods I settled in on this one. I looked at and handled tri pods that were much more expensive than the 500DX but I could not see where they beat the stability of this equipment. I do most landscape photography and covered bridges, it takes me to some really rough terrian I needed a tri pod that could stand the banging around and stand sturdy in the wind, the Slik 500DX met all my requirements and more. It may be a little on the hefty side but I can put up with that, it has neopreme around the legs which adds to comfort when carring it. I would recommend the 500DX to anyone who wants quality at a low price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tall enough for a person 6'1 I'm 6'1 and having a tripod that could extend to a sturdy comfortable working height is important to me. Most of my recent work has been landscape photography. So, I mounted my camera and extended the center column to a comfortable shooting level and still had room to extend the center column higher. The center column has 2 locking mechanisms to prevent it from slipping and wobbling. The head is solid as well. I'm not fond of having 2 handles to manipulate, so, will at some point upgrade to a ball head. The quick release is made of metal and very tight to lock in place. Once locked, however, you're camera isn't going anywhere! I'm very pleased with the Slik 500DX and recommend it as a very good tripod.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sorry I waited so long I'm a pretty good amateur. It won't get heavy use. I had been using a cheaper version of a Slik and never thought much about tripods. I was immediately impressed with the difference between an ok and a good tripod. I got it the day before a trip and really enjoyed using it. Very solid and smooth for panning. Still getting used to using both handles, but am very impressed by the diffence. It has the ability to extend much taller than I need, so am able to use it without all the extension, making it more stable. Should have gotten it a few years earlier. Thanks to earlier reviewers for helping with my choice. Oh, and yes, it is a little heavy so it won't go on any long walks with me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am extremely happy!!! My old tripod broke, just got one of these. I haven't testedit in the field but my first impressions are wonderful. Itis much more versatile than most tripods from this class, but the real reason why I got it is its stability andreliability. The tripod is very sturdy and can easily handleheavier equipment w/ longer lenses. The only drawback thatI noticed so far is that it is not among the lightesttripods out there. But at that price you just can't gowrong. Bottom line: I love it! Expertise: Advanced amateur / professional Problems Encountered: A little heavier than expected Previous Equivalent Item Owned: Slik U8000 Items I Recommend: Get a ballhead

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SLIK Slam Dunk!! The Slik 500DX holds my Canon 40D firm and steady in the gusty mountains, on rough terrain, and makes a professional statement when bouncing around weddings and company picnics. My sister spent around $450.00 for a professional tripod and mount, and now feels foolish for doing so after seeing the quality and versality of the Slik. The only thing I would change, is to add a hook for a counter-weight or bungie, but only for the stormy weather shots, when gusts are at 50mph. It doesn't qualify as light weight, but it is not too heavy for long hikes, either.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tripod for this price! I love this tripod. I've had it about 6 months. It's solid as a rock, holds my Canon XTi and 100-300 lens with no problem at all. Very easy to set up and adjust. It's been set in mud, snow, and mountain streams, as well as on solid ground. If you hike long distances this may not be for you, you pay for the rock solid with weight. I'm in fair condition, and I don't think I'd have any problem hiking a few miles out and back with it, but it's not a lightweight. If you need light weight and rock solid stability, you'll have to pay a lot more.
