    Metz 48 AF-1 TTL Reviews

mecablitz 48 AF-1 TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Olympus & Panasonic SLR Cameras is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Flash The best thing about this flash is that it works with both my Olympus e-520 and my Panasonic Lumix cameras. I bought the recomended recharable batteries and this flash works great. Fast recovery time and extremely bright. I have not used it as a slave yet but I am sure I will be impressed. The only bad thing is the manual is terrible. It took me almost 15 minutes to find the english version and it is not well written. Over all I like this flash a lot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good flash at a good price. I purchased this product to use with a new Olympus E-520 and an older E-300 digital camera. I decided on the Metz flash as an alternative to an OEM model because of the price and Metz reputation. My older Olympus FL-40 floash works only in manual mode with these cameras. The Metz has full dedication, including the wireless remote slave feature. I had hoped to use the remote flash feature to be able to mount the flash on a pro flash bracket without the bulky coiled remote cable. Because the remote feature uses the integrated flash on the camera and there is a limited angle of view of that flash, this will not work. However, it is an error on my part that I did not do the research to discover this before purchasing the flash. Even if I had known this, I would still have purchased this flash.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it, great Value! * Use the 48 AF-1 for Portraits, Weddings, on location shoots. Multi Flash set ups. * 1/2 the price of the OLY FL50R flash (basically 2 for the price of 1) * for the price, very well built imho * Using OLY TTL WiFi flash system is a no brainer, when you need to take the shot Fast, or you only have one shot at it. * Love how you can control the Flash right from the e30,e3, e520 body ... TTL or Manual * Love how you can trigger flashes ... some in TTL and some in Manual (like in the background) * DO NOT like the menu, and how to set things ... but once you learn it ... it's ok ... it's all controled on the camera anyway. * DO NOT like the line of site thing about it IR ... and not as effective during the day or hidden behind a wall ... so, you need to use Radio Triggers still * DO NOT like the fact that there is NO inputs .. mono or PC for Radio Triggers imho, the ONLY weak point (for the money) * for me, putting on and off the flash, was not a problem. but, I read you should turn the knob all the way open :) Bottom LINE ... Great Value! Might buy more ... own two.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High value flash unit I've owned this flash a few days, and I like it very much. On my E-520 with my 12-60 lens, the on-camera flash is useless due to the shadow cast by the lens. This flash completely overcomes that obstacle for indoor photography at all focal lengths, and is powerful enough to give very nice results using bounce flash (about the only way I use it). The performance:price ratio of this flash is very high compared to Olympus' own offerings. However, I did play with the Olympus flashes in a camera store before buying the Metz, and I will say that the Olympus flashes have a more solid, professional feel to them. Still, I think this Metz flash is great for amateur use and well-enough constructed that it should offer long life. I use it with 2500 mAh NiMH batteries, and recycle times seem quick so far. Someone mentioned difficulty mounting the flash. Note that there is a locking pin as part of the hot shoe interface, and the locking collar must be raised all the way, in order to completely retract the pin before mounting/dismounting. I find the solidity of the hotshoe mount itself feels equal to the Olympus when locked on-camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best value full-featured flash for Oly Received as a gift to use with my Olympus E-620 and am very impressed so far using it indoors and as an outdoor fill flash: recycles are very quick and silent, output is consistent. Built-in bounce reflector is handy; USB upgradeable firmware is reassuring. Doesn't include a stand though. Build quality seems good to me -- I haven't used the Olympus units to compare, but I don't see anything wrong with the Metz. The biggest weakness is the interface, but now that I have it figured out it hasn't been a problem in actual use. Wireless TTL works well, however in the Olympus implementation it is triggered as an optical slave so the Metz needs to be in the line of sight of the on camera flash. Having done a little testing, it seems like hand-holding the flash out to the side but slightly forward of the camera works ok if that's what you want to do. Overall, better performance than the Olympus FL-36R for just a little more, and still half the price of the FL-50R.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loving the pictures I'm the casual/amateur photographer, who just enjoys taking pictures. One thing I always felt was that the pictures indoors weren't coming out as good as I'd hope for them to be. And then I saw a friend of mine using the proper external flash, so I figured I'd try out one myself. I saw pretty good reviews of this flash and decided to go for it. I've taken quite a few pictures in the evenings so far (both indoors and outdoors) and am pretty excited about the results so far. The flash recharges very fast and is ready for the click, click, click.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Strobist Flash This flash works perfectly with the Olympus Remote Control System. You can change settings and fire the flash remotely without any sync cable or pocket wizards.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great product It is fully compatible with my camera at a reasonable price and 180 dollars less than the camera manufacture top of the line flash that is not that more powerful than this flash only by 2 meters or 6.5 feet at full output also this camera has a usb port which you can upgrade the firmware yourself without having to send it to the flash manufacture.
