i wish to buy Elinchrom Ranger RX Speed AS 1100W/s Kit with A Head...can i get a flash output of 1100 watt ( which is maximum ) incase i use only 1 light as in most of the situations i will be using only 1 light ?
An A head attached to the B (33%) port and an S head attached to the A (66%) port will give you an even output. You will get the most out of the system with 3 heads for your pack, either 2 As and an S or 2 Ss and an A, depending on your genre and preference. I use four heads interchanging them with one another to take advantage of the pack's asymmetry and the variance in head output between A and S. You get the most control out of this sort of combo without being able to fully adjust each light separately. Of course, adding another battery pack will allow more control but adds a good amount of weight to lug around. Elinchrom is a little lacking in the tutorial department on their websites and you need to have a lot of equipment around to experiment with this to figure it all out. I hope this helps someone.

I bought this Elinchrom Ranger RX Speed AS kit and I love it. My question is, I am ready to buy a second head but I'm not sure if I should get the A Head or the S Head??. I shot mainly portraits and weddings. Also I'm not sure I fully understand the everything I need to know about the split power that's sent to the two lights... If I bought a second A Head can I control the ratio or am I forced to accept the two to one ratio. Any thoughts would be great. Thank you. Mike Medford, Oregon
Hi,If you want to HS photography or Hi-Sync look at the S Head.http://www.elinchrom.ch/learn/hss-hs.htmlIf HS is not your style and you wish to freeze action look at the A head.As far as the ratios goes you are correct. Elinchrom Web Site; At 1100 Ws this unit will recycle to full power in only 2.9 seconds and will deliver up to 250 flashes at full power and offers a 2:1 asymmetrical output to allow fast flash duration.
