Furman M8Dx overview

  • 1Description

The Furman M-8Dx Merit X Series 8 Outlet Power Conditioner is a low-cost AC power solution for rack mount systems. Install an M-8Dx in the top slot of your rack, and the eight switched AC outlets in the rear panel will power up and protect all your equipment, up to a 15A load.

The M-8Dx features a digital bright red, 3digit LED voltmeter that displays the incoming line voltage from 60 to 150 VAC (accuracy +/- 2 VAC). It also includes two pull-out light tubes for rack illumination, with dimmer control.

M-Series conditioners protect your delicate electronic equipment by combining high voltage varistor (MOV) surge and transient suppressors. The fast-acting suppression circuit quickly responds, and clamps transient voltages to safe levels. An RFI/EMI interference filter works to prevent noise from fluorescent lights, certain dimmers, radio transmitters, and similar sources of "electronic pollution" from contaminating the AC line, and from there leaking into sensitive audio, video, or computer circuits.

The rear outlets have been spaced to accomodate even the bulkiest of wall warts and adapters.
A circuit breaker is provided on the rear panel. If the total load on the Power Conditioner (combining all outlets) exceeds the 15A (or 1800W limit), the circuit breaker will trip. It may be easily reset by pushing in a button.
A convenient master switch for the rear outlets which glows when the power is on. There is a separate "Rack Lights" switch for the lamps, plus a dimmer control knob which regulates the lamps' brightness.
Standard level filtration from radio frequencies and electromagnetic interference.
Operating Voltage: 90 to 140 VAC

    Furman M8Dx reviews

M-8Dx Merit X Series 8 Outlet Power Conditioner & Surge Protector - with LED Voltmeter & Dual Lights is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Now I know now I know why I always see these things on Nracks. Best feature? Shuts of those bits of gear that don't have power buttons with a power button on the front! Has an accurate voltage meter - at least for a home studio. Got rid of two on the floor: surge protectors. Tech support is fantastic. I called about the voltage meter fluctuations. I got a very useful education in electricity. Long story short this Tech set in motion a call to my super who fixed an issue in my fusebox - a potential fire hazard was averted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy Duty Folks, this is a nice power conditioner at a great price. I would recommend anyone with nice gear worth protecting get one of these units. It is solidly built and the voltmeter gives an accurate reading of the supply voltage available to your stuff. I like the way it has a 'protection ok' light to warn you if the unit took a nasty surge and is no longer working. The outlets are very strong assuring a good tight connection with your gear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact and Reliable Rack Component I have been using Furman power conditioners for many years, mainly to provide a portable power strip with reasonably clean power. Providing adjustable light to rack components in often dim stage conditions is more than welcome too. I use the Furman with short ANSI power cables (12") to minimize the clutter in the backside of the rack. At 12" in depth, the backside of the Furman is short enough to clear the rear cover, yet long enough to reach without skinning my knuckles. Kudos! Furman. How about a 1-space Furman UPS?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it is supposed to do. I use this power conditioner to power my 4 pieces of rack gear and my large LCD monitor. Because I live in an old house I am wary of voltage spikes which could damage my gear. The Furman seems to be doing well reducing noise in my all around setup as well as improve the performance of my television's contrast and detail. I also like the pop out lights for live shows. The voltage display is also useful for gaging power during in the cuts live setup. I will buy another one soon as it is only rated for 15amps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great value This is being used in a small recording studio. It's main purpose is to protect a $4600 Korg Kronos. We are located in Central Florida which is the lightning capitol of the country, so it is important to have whatever protection you can afford. After some research we felt this was/is the best value. Also love the lights, voltage readout and the strong build quality and finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great I almost got the cheaper version without the voltmeter and the lights. Glad i didn't. The volt meter lets you know what you are working with. It doesn't change anything. But it is nice to know, and it looks cool. The lights are quite useful to see your controls in a dim lit room. When I purchased it was on sale and a great deal. It is worth the money at the regular price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you need one, get a Furman I bought this to replace a similar unit (that had an intermittent power switch) by another company in my keyboard rack. I have a furman power conditioner in my studio effects rack that I bought in 1980 and never had a problem with it. I've learned my lesson. Price difference was negligible and the reliability of furman products are incredible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functions well Had the M-8DX for a few weeks now, and I couldn't be happier. There isn't really much to say since we haven't been struck by lightning. the only thing I would change is have the power button be backlit. other than that its fine.
