Cavision MB4512 Reviews
Flimsy and Poorly Designed Junk
First, it took 2 months to receive the item, not the 2-4 weeks advertised. Then on arrival, it was clear on unboxing that this is a shoddy product with no quality control. It gives an amateurly homemade, 3-D printed impression, with wiggly joints and dust and shavings all over it. The swing-away feature causes the entire box to slump down alarmingly, even without any filters. Knobs are poorly placed and difficult to tighten to any usable degree. The flags won't stay in place without frequent tightening, which requires a screwdriver for the bottom and an allen wrench for the top, so you're frequently employing other tools for tune-ups just to restore basic functionality for a few more shots. On top of that, one of the filter frame retaining screws had arrived filed down for some reason (see photo) to be too short to hold the frame, making it risky to use that slot and adding to the feeling that they just slapped some spare parts together and jerry-rigged them into a "product". It's a piece of junk that would have been better off never being produced; not sure why they even bothered. It's especially not worth the money. Feels like a $40 toy at best. Matte box choices are limited and get pricey very quickly, but don't waste your time looking for a bargain with this dysfunctional mess. B and H would do its customers a favor by removing the listing altogether.
Poor quality control and design
... we today received the 4x5.65 matt box, French flags and side flags. Our impression is that sloppy design and workmanship define this product. The matt box is the best of the lot. The filter stages and box itself are fairly well made of heavy plastic. However, the side mounting holes for the side flags were only taped through on 4 of the 8 holes. We are now considering if we should tap them, or return the side flags. ... Also, the mounting system is exceptionally flimsy. The mounting hinges are not well secured. The design is simply skimpy and poorly engineeredThe French top flag does not mate well with the lock on the matt box. The hinges are fine.We purchased this primarily as a light-control system. It will probably work satisfactory for that. Nevertheless Cavision needs to revisit their quality control and product design.
