The Canon DM-100 is a lightweight, camera-mountable microphone designed for use with Vixia camcorders. The mic attaches directly to the Vixia's advanced accessory shoe, which supplies the mic with power and provides a cable-free audio connection to the camera. The versatile DM-100 offers three pickup modes to choose from. The monophonic shotgun setting provides a supercardioid polar pattern that focuses audio capture tightly in front of the mic. For stereo recordings, you can choose between a narrow 90° pickup and a wider 120° setting for a more panoramic sound stage. A furry windmuff is provided to reduce wind noise when shooting outside.

The capsules in the Canon DM-100 Camera-Mount Directional/Stereo Microphone can be configured for three different mono and stereo settings. In the mono setting, audio is picked up from directly in front of the mic. There are two options for the field width when using stereo settings - 90 degrees for a narrow focus when recording one of two people who are relatively close, and 120 degrees for a wider focus when recording multiple people or when recording a play or sporting event from a distance.
