The Epson 87 Photo Black Ink Cartridge for Epson Stylus Photo R1900 Printers -   prints digital photos that look and feel like traditional color lab prints. This quick-dry, ultra-fine ink provides vivid high-image quality output with minimum dot gain.

When the most vivid, brilliant colors and true deep blacks are critical to a photograph or proof, Epson UltraChrome Hi-Gloss 2 inks are a logical choice. Epson photographic dye delivers a print with unparalleled color, density, and clarity. This ink is a favorite among commercial photographers, prepress proofing, and design professionals.

Epson UltraChrome Hi-Gloss 2 pigment inks provide superior resistance to water, fading and smudging.

Epson 87 reviews

87 Photo Black Ink Cartridge is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from problem with r 1900 ink cartriges Recently purchased the R1900 printer for photography printing. There are two problems with ink cartriges. Colors are sometimes on back order and there has been difficulty with the cartriges not working after a few days or the empty cartrige light stays lit on the printer, even after a new cartrige was added. This has happened with a few of the colors. Photo Black, Cyan, and the gloss. Epson has been contacted regarding the problem. Uncertain if the flaw is in the ink cartriges or in the printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great inks for a great printer! I purchased the epson r1900 last year and have been very happy with the results. I'm a photographer trying to get my work shown in galleries etc and have been printing all my own work using this printer for my portfolio and some pieces that have been shown in galleries. The colors are accurate and rich and unlike other inkjet printers I've used, this one gives a very smooth finish with no lines. Highly recommend this printer and these inks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cutting Epson ink cost . . . A trick I learned from the DPR forum works well for me. I leave My Epson R1900 printer on all of the time so that it does not clean the jets every time I use it. (If you shut the printer off, then each time you turn it on, it automatically cleans the ink jets by using additional ink.) I do not print every day . . . perhaps once a week or so. The performance of this printer, and the Epson inks, is exceptional.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect at last ? I switched to R1900 from Epson 2100 (Epson 2200 in US). Some would say it was as a step backward, but it was not. Yes 1900 does not give such nice matt on black and white prints, but in exchange it offers very realistic and fidel colours plus nice halftones. It is as good as my old Epson 1200 as far as the colours are concerned but is much better in halftones. The gloss is nice, but gloss cartridge empties very quickly. In general the cardridges are more expensive than for 2200 (I always was buying the 2200 cardridges for my 2100 printer, much more than twice cheaper !). Also it seems to me that 1900 cartridges are lower capacity than 2200, although I did not find confirmation of it anywhere. Note: for best colours print from Epson proprietary software, I never obtrained as good colours from Photoshop printing despite of extensive fiddling with colour profiles and set-ups. Epson software pring equaly well Adobe and sRGB images !.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Can't get consistent blacks at the price I'm professional artist and document my work by scanning both color slides & black white film into my computer. I have found that unless you can afford a lot extra software beside Photoshop Elements, you can't get true rich blacks or whites without an overall cast of blue or other colors. Very frustrating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ink, great printer. I recommend this ink and the Epson R1900 for anyone looking for professional and affordable printing. Actually, the prints I make with this system are better than any prints I have ordered from pro photo shops. You just have to know how to color correct.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Whoa! This ink is black! It fit into my printer, just as described. When I printed my photo, I was pleasantly surprised that it printed black instead of yellow, cyan, or magenta. Highly recommend this ink instead of using a marker to draw in black parts of your photo by hand.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Excelent product in very small quantity My comment refers to all 8 R1900 cartridges: The ink is excellent and the colors are perfect. But considering the small size of the cartridge and R1900 high ink consumption they are too expensive.
