Axis Communications AXIS 240Q 4-Port Blade Video Server, M-JPEG, 6 FPS (10 Pack)
Key Features
  • PTZ Control
  • Motion Detection
  • Alarm I/O
The Axis Communications AXIS 240Q Blade Video Server effectively bridges the gap between analog and digital technology. The server accepts four analog fixed or dome cameras and turns them into virtual network cameras complete with remote Internet viewing and recording, PTZ control and alarm I/O support. This Blade is designed to slide inside an AXIS Video Rack Server, either the 3-port or the 12-port version, with the Rack providing both power and serial camera control. Both rack models use a single Ethernet port to connect to a network and allow easy swapping between different types of Blades. A Blade is a very useful tool for long established security facilities looking to take full advantage of the latest in network technology without having to replace their existing high resolution and expensive analog equipment.

Axis Communications 240Q Overview

M-JPEG Streaming Only (6 FPS)
Video Servers are available in four different configurations, each designed to suit a particular application. This AXIS 240Q server captures video only in the M-JPEG mode and at speeds up to 6 FPS for every channel. Most of the other servers capture video simultaneously in both M-JPEG and MPEG-4 at speeds up to 30 FPS per channel. For this reason, this server is well suited for applications requiring dependable over the network streaming but do not require maximum network transmission versatility or full motion video.
Secure Network Management
An elaborate encryption and filtering system is incorporated to prevent hackers and other illicit network infiltrators from accessing the camera. Authorized users however will find it easy to access the camera for viewing images and for PTZ control. A multi-user password system is employed to determine the level of access for general clients and an administrator.
PTZ Control
A number of standard serial ports allow the direct connection of PTZ dome cameras. Once connected, dome cameras are treated like any other network camera, with a user able to control basic pan, tilt, and zoom functions as well as any additional complex operations like preset positions, tours and groups.
Alarm I/O Ports
To further enhance security performance, this server features a number of alarm I/O ports. These I/O ports will accept a number of external sensors to trigger alarm events such as when a door or window is being forcefully opened, and to activate devices following an alarm event like turning a light on or locking down a row of doors.
Built-In Motion Detection
Built into the server is a motion detection function fully configurable for area and sensitivity. Motion detection not only alerts an operator to suspicious movement, but when used to trigger recording to a DVR, saves valuable time and network resources. To keep users apprised of all important events, this server can be set to send alerts to a designated Email address over the network.
