    Sennheiser MZW400 reviews

MZW400 Wind-muff and XLR Adapter Kit for the MKE400 is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from So pleased with this It not only slides over the foam protector that came with the MKE400 mic, it clicks into place! That's important not for the reason you think--not falling off. It is important because the wind won't be able to cause any movement of the wind-protector, which would create noise when the protector bangs against mic components. Normal wind-protectors slide over the foam, so they are not going to easily fall off, but in strong winds the end of the protector pounds against the rear of the mic. The mic picks it up as a scratching noise. I can fix that with tape, but would rather not. With this one, you don't have anything to fix.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Value I purchased this wind-muffler along with the Sennheiser MKE 400 mic to use for outdoor shooting of sports and it work very well. It cuts down the low frequency rumble of wind exactly as it is supposed to. It's easy to install and will improve the audio quality of your videos right out of the box. My only criticism is that it doesn't fit quite as snuggly as I'd like over the existing my and windscreen. It is a bit loose and hangs down slightly. I rigged up a small piece a gaff tape in the field to place between the muffler and the existing wind screen to keep it tight and it worked well and didn't adversely affect the sound quality.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Falls Off Easily It looks like a well designed Windmuff but unfortunately in general use falls off really easily. My daughter's rubber hair band fixed that problem. It's also not great at it's job of minimising wind rumble. It's supposed to be used without the foam Windmuff but I find it helps a little bit if they are used together as well as always setting the low-cut-filter switch to the on position even in light wind conditions. Children will want to hit it and pull it which puts the mike at an increased risk of damage. Should be available without the XLR adapter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A It didn't take me long to find out that even a slight breeze past the normal foam that comes with the MKE 400 mic will ruin an audio recording :-(. I use this wind-muffer (it censored me when I called it wind-muf*) with my Sennheiser mic on top of my Canon T2i DSLR. Lately, I've been making surfing videos. It knocks the wind rumble waaaay down, making the audio portion quite useable :-). I read somewhere that someone had trouble keeping it in place on the mic but I think they didn't properly SNAP it into place! It hangs onto the mic nice and tight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent This windmuff works great! I could really tell the difference once i put the windmuff on. The wind noise disappeared. I was shooting outdoors of some basic home video and it works great. I also used it when shooting a music video on a windy day. The only downfall is its kinda of pricey, ... Its a sennheiser so i guess you can't expect it to be cheap so i didn't take away any stars. This is a quality product ... and that is why i recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Presto-Changeo Real Quicko I purchased my MKE400 mic from a local store because I wanted it fast. However, they didn't have the correct wind-jammer, let alone this kit, so I purchased the wind-jammer that they recommended. This wind-jammer fits much nicer and the audible 'click' during installation assures me that I won't be losing this one. Also, this adapter is totally the one to get. It is so much nicer to be able to quickly remove my Sennheiser ew100 receiver from my camera shoe, install the MKE400 mic and plug it directly into this adapter into the XLR input. No more hurrying to reset the source input on my Tascam DR70D with this little gem. I can leave everything set the way it is, plug this in and not miss any action during the shoot. This kit gives me 100% satisfaction.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well Bought along with MKE 400 for using with my D800. Tested this weekend on the shore in mild wind conditions no noise, zero. I took one star for two reasons. First, I don't understand why it is sold separately as an accessory I am guessing there are very few to none users that would not need the wind m@ff not really an option, should be included with MKE 400. Second it clicks on MKE 400 fairly easy, but it's also easy to accidently knock it off A more secure mounting option would be nice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Essential accessory for the MKE400 Unless you only use the MKE400 microphone indoors, the MZW400 is an absolutely essential accessory. Anything over a slight breeze will give you horrible wind roar without it. The wind reduction switch position of the MKE400 is nothing but a bass cut. Something you can do later in post. It doesn't protect you from wind noise. That has to be done at the recording stage. The sponge cover that comes with the MKE400 is completely inadequate. The MZW400 works well. And it can be used with or without the sponge cover. It is very light, so I personally see no reason to ever take the MZW400 off unless you have some sort of storage case for the microphone without it. As to the issue many have mentioned here - that the MZE400 seems to fall off easily - I can sympathize with you. Attachment is very fiddly and non-intuitive, but it DOES clip in place, albeit a bit awkwardly. As the small manual that comes with it says, once you've slid it on, you have to press it downwards at the back to get it to clip on properly. It doesn't clip on backwards as you slide it on, but downwards onto the base under the back of the microphone once it's slid all the way on. It seems reasonably secure once you feel that reassuring click. So all in all, a must have if you own the MKE400 unless you use it indoors or on windless days only. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that, when wind hits it from behind, it seems to leak a bit more from that direction and I got some wind noise, albeit much reduced than without it. But since the MKE400 is a short shotgun mic., you'll be pointing it at the subject and its rear can easily be protected from wind without getting in the way of the camera. So I would have given it 4.5 stars if I could have as this is such a minor issue.
