    Alesis SR-18 reviews

SR-18 Portable Drum Machine is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A nice update from the SR16 at a great p I use this machine for recording song compositions prior to using a live drummer. I also use it for live performances by saving songs to the memory and also the pads for fills and endings. It is a fairly easy machine to use, although the instructions are not particularly well written. The list of kits and patterns should be in larger type so you can copy without enlargement for easier use live without eye strain. The sounds are better than the SR16 and I like the bass and input function. It should have USB and SD card functions to expand the memory and for updates. A bit dated design in that regard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SR 18 - Revolutionary, not evolutionary I'm a musician with 2 bands as well as a composer and performer of my original music. I you use the Alesis SR 18 to create original drum tracks for my compositions. It has been great-sounding & easy to use right out of the box. The MIDI out is a great help when using other rhythmic software, as is the AUX in for other instruments. The price was unbeatable, and with the adjustable swing & quantize functions, it's as close to a real drummer as a machine can get. I haven't found anything to complain about except the bass patterns, but I don't use them - I create my own. As a drum machine, this is an excellent choice

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lov It I use it to jam and practice my guitar techniques. I also plant to record with it in my home studio as soon as I fully perfect programming it. Sounds awesome through my PA and running through the 16 track digital recorder I own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glad I bought it! B&H was nice to deal with and had the best price. I've owned and used an alesis hr 16 for over 10 yrs in the past and the good news is, some of the basic functions carried over. This thing has impressive sounds and I will be home recording with it. To demystify some in regards to the bass, simply hold down mute and press the bass button. It took about a half hour to figure it out since I was unable to quicky find that in the manual. With only an hour with it, I've made a few cool user songs with little effort. Alesis is a great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glad I bought this drum machine! I use this in my home studio for recording. Has a lot of bells and whistles if you need them. Mostly, I just use it to manually tap out the drums and percussion while recording but it is certainly capable of much, much more. I love the variety of sampled drum kits and the recorded sound is indeed authentic. I doubt most people would guess it's not performed by a real drummer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Practical drum machine A good machine. Very convenient for a one-man band, you can change different patterns with your foot. The sound quality is acceptable, could be better. I use it to Latin rhythms, unfortunately the preset patterns of these rhythms are disastrous, but I could create my own beats. For What I need comparing with other machines this is the best. .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Big Improvement over SR-16 I have been using the SR-16 ever since it came out and still do to this very day. However, the SR-18 is a big step up from its predecessor. Some of the features I love about the SR-18 are 1) The ability to record bass lines 2) Percussion bank, which now makes the unit capable of using up to 24 different drum sounds 3) portability, being able to run on batteries if need be 4) better sounding sampled drum and percussion sounds 5)illuminated display 6) bigger pads; etc. The list goes on and on. The only thing I am still trying to figure out is step editing bass lines. If you record in real time and then go to step edit, the parts that have notes were the sustain is longer will not be recreated the same way in step edit mode. Overall this unit is a steal from B&H!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Sound Experience for the drummer! This is an awesome drum machine, hundreds of sounds and some really cool preloaded effects. Also a great array of sounds from techno and house to rock and world kits. A great feature is a the added bass sounds to accompany you while playing, along with many percussion sounds. It is not the most user friendly piece of gear, however after about an hour of looking through the manual you can just about figure it all out! Overall I highly recommend it, great for any sort of person looking to get their groove on.
