Pentax E50 Overview

The Pentax Optio E50 Digital Camera is affordable and easy to use - making it a great entry-level compact digital camera. With a resolution of 8.0 Megapixels and a 3x optical zoom Pentax lens, the camera provides all you need to make superb pictures, even at enlargements up to poster sizes.

Even though this camera is easy to use, experienced digital photographers will enjoy the slim, lightweight body and simple mode selection dial. In addition, the camera is equipped with a high resolution 2.4 inch LCD display, 9.5MB of internal memory and high quality AVI Movie capture; plus the camera uses travel-friendly AA batteries as a power source.

8.0 Megapixel Resolution
The 1/2.5-inch CCD of the E50 digital camera produces high quality images with a resolution of 8.0 megapixels that can be enlarged or cropped, and the camera produces images with more natural, vivid colors thanks to its 12-bit A/D converter.
3x Optical Zoom
The Optio E40 has a 3x optical zoom lens equivalent to a 38 - 112mm lens in 35mm format. When the optical zoom is paired with the digital zoom function (up to 4x), the camera can attain up to 12x effective zoom magnification. The quality Pentax lens also has superb macro capability with minimum focus as close as 6" in wide mode.
Digital SR (Shake Reduction) Function
Using Digital SR reduces camera shake and blurring of the subject when photographing still images. The sensitivity is adjusted automatically, to as high as ISO 1600, enabling photography with fast shutter speeds, and consequently less blur. Movie SR (Shake Reduction) is also included in the camera providing an electronic shake reduction function exclusively for capturing movies.
Convenient Mode Pallet
The Optio E50 features the Pentax-original mode palette system for smooth, effortless selection of shooting and playback modes - all the user has to do to set the desired mode is select the corresponding icon on the screen. Furthermore the extensive modes available in the camera mean that there is a simple shooting solution for just about any type of photography. The E50 even has a Panorama mode that automatically stitches three images together for a wide vista shot - great for landscapes and travel pictures.
Auto Picture Mode
The Auto Picture mode in the Optio E50 automatically determines the shooting conditions for Landscape, Portrait, Night Scene, and Normal modes and selects the optimum settings for each subject.
The Green Mode is Easy on Beginners
The Green mode takes the guesswork out of taking pictures for first-time digital photographers by automatically setting all still-image photo settings.
Face Recognition AF & AE
The Optio E50 is equipped with a Face Recognition AF & AE function that automatically detects and focuses on up to 10 faces to assure properly exposed portraits, regardless of where the people appear in the photo frame. In addition, exposure settings are automatically adjusted to optimize for the faces, even if there is backlighting.
Record Movies with Sound
The camera can record quality movies with sound in either VGA (640 x 480) or QVGA (320 x 240) resolution and at a frame rate of either 30 or 15 fps. There is also a voice memo mode that allows users to attach a sound recording to an image.
2.4-inch LCD Display
The Optio E50 manages to fit in a large, 2.4-inch LCD monitor despite its compact body dimensions. Not only does the monitor's size make it easier to compose and play back images, it also permits easier operation and setup thanks to its larger, easier-to-read menu display.
Convenient AA-size Batteries
AA-size batteries can be purchased at any store so you don't need to worry about running out of power or recharging batteries - simply get replacement batteries locally.
Direct Printing Capable
The E50 supports PictBridge Direct printing as well as ImageLink, which means that the E50 can be connected to or docked with compatible printers, and photos can be printed without using a PC.
