The Celestron AC to DC Power adapter has a standard 2-prong North American power plug on a ~6' cord on one end, and a 5.5mm circular DC output jack on a ~6 cord on the other side; in between is a transformer box.  The North American plug cord is detachable from the transformer; the cord with the 5.5mm DC plug point is permanently attached to the transformer.  Output of this unit is consistently 12 volts DC.

This allows AC 120-240V, 50-60 Hz AC current supplies to power any of the Celestron telescopes with the 5.5mm DC input on their drive base, a long list of items which includes the Advanced, Celestar 8, CG9/11/14, CI700, CPC, CGE, NexStar i, NexStar SE, Celestron NexStar i, NexStar SE, Ultima 2000 series and others.

AC to DC Power Adapter is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 44.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Worked Well and Then It Did Not I purchased this for my CPC925 to ensure an adequate and reliable power source. My experience with Radio Shack and no-name brands switching adapters was poor so I decided to get the Celestron with its two year warranty. What can I say it worked just fine for several months. The last night the scope started to cycle on and off. I took the adapter to a different outlet and connected a VOM--12.2V then 9V the 10V then 12.2V. I disconnected and reinserted the AC cable and tried again--12.2V! After a few moments it dropped to 9V and begain cycling. I know the warranty drill with Celestron and I will call for an RMA I guess. But when you add the cost of shipping it back to Celestron it is much less of a bargain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yes, I would recommend this to a friend. This Power Adapter unit works like a charm. If you have access to a 110/120 volt receptacle this power adapter will safely transform AC voltage to 12 volts DC, allowing unlimited viewing for your Go To Scope. I was initially apprehensive that it might not transform voltage effectively, and consequently fry my electronics, but I'm happy to say that it has worked great and I have utmost confidence using it with my Nexstar 6se. I researched 4 or 5 other vendors and B & H had the lowest price of all. The unit arrived fully intact with no adverse impact in transit.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Celestron makes a better one, do not buy this one This adapter falls out all of the time and you have to realign the scope because of it. Celestron has another one that screws in to the port and does not fall out. Check outITEM # 18780 on Their site.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Celestron AC to DC Power Adapter This power unit, when connected to my CPC 9.5 inch Celestron Telescope allows for use of the scope when connected to AC mains power. It's a pity that Celestron hasn't designed the 3 metre power cable jack with the same screw-lock mechanism that the DC car cigarette lighter has. It is easy to knock or jar the poweer jack, cutting power to the scope, loosing all alignment-data input downloaded to the PC. This can be fixed by using some commercial packing tape or similar to firmly tape the power cord to the base of the scope, preventing the jack from being dislodged. Otherwise, at around $20.00 this accessory is great value. It is likely that a extension cord is needed to get the power to where you have your scope situated. Anyone owning a CPC series scope would be well recommended to get this must have. I have heard of CPC owners trying to adapt the cig lighter cord to an off the shelf converter and having glitches with proper functioning or calibration of the scope. I can't comment on that, but since getting the Celestron AC to DC power supply have had no problems at all, once the power cord is taped to the scope base. Keep in mind when locating your scope and power board it will be dark, and with 3 or 4 connecting cords running from the scope things can get tangled very quickly when the scope slews to a different object, or you trip over power/scope connection cords, it could be a very expensive slip-up. So keep it neat, and be aware of power and connection cords when using the scope in the dark.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Even whiter teeth!! Promptly after removing this item from it's well styled yet understated white box I put it straight to work. Carefully inserting one end into an electrical outlet conveniently located in a wall near by. And the other end into my mount that was unfortunately set up about 3 & 1/2 inches to far from said outlet to reach with the length of cord provided with the device. Provided you don't get the AC and DC ends mixed up the device should work well for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must have for home viewing When I ordered my NexStar 6SE I included the AC to DC Adapter with it. Unfortunately it was out of stock so I was forced to use 8 AA batteries every night I wanted to go out. At best I could use my telescope for around an hour. After it arrived, I can stay out all night (or at least until I get too cold or my wife calls me in). The output jack fits snugly in the NexStar mount so I've had no problem with it slipping out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AC/DC power The Celestron is a must have for telescope owners, I prefer to plug in my scope's computerized hand control when using on the deck out back because I find myself stargazing for hours on end. It works as stated, and I rather rely on battery usage when going out to an open field for viewing. If you own a scope, get juiced!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from must have adaptor for telescope guided by previous reviewers I purchased this adaptor to eliminate the constant renewing of batteries and of course it does what it is design to do. It came with US type AC plug but converting it to local plug was not a problem, have used over several hours on many nights lately and highly recommend
