118 Universal Short Spigot with Double Male Thread is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Needs improvement The only negative is the location of the center hole. When used with the Manfrotto 026 umbrella adapter tightening the screw clamp will sometimes interfere with the hole. The purpose of the hole is to allow tightening of accessories at either end (such as a cold shoe) by placing an object such as a screwdriver through the hole. This hole however should be smaller in diameter or relocated further to either end of the spigot to avoid interference with the clamp screw. A better design would be to have 2 flat spots on the body. This would allow the screw clamp to seat better and also facilitate the use of a small adjustable wrench.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No holes please The hole in the middle of the spigot really complicates things when used with a universal umbrella adapter. In a perfect world it wouldn't matter, but the ugly reality is that most of the time you need a solid connection between your the spigot and your device before inserting into your umbrella adapter. This means that sometimes it lines up your way and sometimes it is useless. Can't someone make this thing without the hole in the middle ... then it would get 5 stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Consistent Manfrotto quality, hole bad Manfrotto's products are consistently high quality, and this is no exception. The threads are perfect and worked where other, cheaper devices did not. Sadly, this product is marred by the hole in the center, which sometimes happens to be in exactly the wrong place when tightening down the clamp screw. Sometimes I need to turn the spigot to a very specific angle, and the clamp screw just goes right through the middle of the hole, creating wiggle and pretty much rendering a small arc of adjustment off-limits.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More proof of Manfrotto's quality. This spigot is a critical component of my flash lighting setup. It's 31 grams of sanity and I'll always have a couple of extras on hand. I mount the 1/4-20 into my PocketWizard TT5 and the center column fits into the 5/8 receptacle in my light stands. These can also be used in a pinch to convert 1/4-20 to 3/8-16, but there are better approaches to that. High build quality, with no burrs or notched threads.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty basic, not cheap, and not that my These spigots are pretty basic: 1/4 male on one end and 3/8 female on the other. They are made of brass so softer and not as strong as some alternatives. Still not sure what that hole in the middle is for but I figure it makes it lighter and easier to manufacturer. If you need something like this then this is one of the few choices out there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plain and simple...works like a charm. Although the 1/4-20 and 3/8 spigot is a staple in every photographers arsenal, the bottom-line is quality construction and value. A+++ on both counts for the 118 Universal Short Spigot with Double Male Thread by Manfrotto. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from must have all flash photographers and studio photographers must have these 1/4 20 spigots these threads fit on all photo gear. there is no avoiding these accessories. manfrotto makes the best!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from lightest stud substitute I could find I use this with the bogen nano clamp as a substitute for a stud because it is so much lighter. It leaves me with a reducing clamping area because of the hole but it is so light :)
