The ART ProSplit Microphone Signal Splitter is ideal for sending a secondary microphone signal to a monitor mixer or recording device, etc. The ProSplit features two XLR outputs. The direct output passes phantom power to the microphone and is intended to feed the main preamplifier, mixer or other input device.
More DetailsThe isolated output is provided to feed a secondary input device, such as a recording device or monitor mixer. A -29dB input pad switch provides added headroom and minimizes distortion. A ground-lift switch elliminates ground loop noise caused by connected devices.

Although the ART ProSplit - Two-Way Microphone Signal Splitter could technically be used to split a line-level signal, it is not intended for this purpose.

Does this give you a better sound quality?
It doesn't IMPROVE audio, but it makes the split sound exactly the same on both channels you want to capture. If you just got a 'y' splitting cable, you'd lose some signal without the transformer. If the mic requires phantom power you could theoretically short out a rig or get hum without a device like this. The alternative would be worse audio.
