RME HDSPe ExpressCard overview

  • 1Description

The HDSP System from RME is a computer audio system that consists of either a PCI/PCIe card and a breakout box for use with desktop computers, or a CardBus/ExpressCard interface and the breakout box for portable, notebook solutions.

The HDSPe ExpressCard is the notebook component of a portable system. It is based on the PCI Express Base Specification v 1.1 and due to the packet-based full duplex communication, the card is capable of transfer rates of up to 250MB/s in each direction. This is the same performance a PCIe card would offer on a desktop computer.

The HDSPe ExpressCard and I/O box are connected using ordinary 6-pin FireWire cable. Since the card does not provide power to the attached I/O box, a compact and light-weight hi-tech switch-mode power supply is included.

Note: To make a complete system, an I/O box, such as the Digiface, Multiface, Multiface II or RPM has to be purchased.

    RME HDSPe ExpressCard reviews

HDSPe ExpressCard - ExpressCard Interface for Notebooks is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from RME ExpressCard, makes your mobile DAW! The RME HDSPe ExpressCard, in combination with RME's Digiface and the Sonnet ExpressCard3/4 Thunderbolt interface, has turned my 15 Macbook into a serious DAW system. Recording 24 channels simultaneously, or doing live audio productions with Logic Pro as my virtual mixer, has made a powerful mobile audio solution a reality. All data is kept in the digital domain hence no noise introduced along signal paths, at optical speeds via ADAT. The analog preamps front-end is via Mackie's Blackbird interfaces' ADAT channels. Light and portable, an audio/recording engineer's dream.
