Manfrotto 127 Tripod Dolly Reviews

Solid, Well-Bult, Big Enough for my 055 Tripod.

A very well-designed aluminum and steel dolly for my infrequent video work. Fits my Manfrotto 055 tripod, which measures about 44" between legs. The large, well-made ball bearing wheels roll easily. If you actually want to dolly while filming, it works best on hard surfaces. The wheel stops can sink into carpet and resist rolling with a moderately heavy rig. The wheels come with two 10mm washers each; I added an idnetical third washer.

Some tweaking before you use it :)

Many have mentioned the stoppers being too close to the floor and difficulty on carpet. I too had this issue, and doing weddings, you're shifting from carpetted floors to dancefloors to sometimes even bumpy concrete, floorboards and tiles. My solution to my problem was to take the unit to a local panelbeater (car body shop), local key duplicator/cutter or local metal works factory or any other metal service provider.. Or if you know anyone who has a grinder capable of grinding stainless steel, go there but ensure you MEASURE and tape your cut. Sounds basic but this voids warranty. I simply cut around 12mm off the leg stoppers. For about $10 and 10 minutes of their time, they'd be happy to grind off 10 to 15mm from each leg stopper. I bought my unit in 2003, and its still going strong in 2017. Its ALWAYS stored in the boot of my car in the Australian weather where car internals can easily hit upwards and over 65degrees Celcius without much fuss. In 16 years almost, Ive only had one rubber tripod leg fastener break whilst using ONLY Manfrotto 055 legs, and thats partly my fault for being impatient and lifting the ENTIRE unit from the 055 legs (dolly attached and held ONLY by the fasteners), hence carrying it quicker than I can roll it... Ive not had an issue with the unit, whatsoever, and its variable spread allows for narrower stance, in turn, giving your tripod a higher angle to shoot from. If your tripod has a long neck, such as the 055 with 501/503 combo, then you'll easily reach upwards of 7ft height when fully extended. Great for LOOOONG Orthodox wedding ceremonies where a fixed camera position with ease of relocation is a necessity. Another trick, is to mount a tripod head to the centre of the dolly unit, and attach a long rubber leash to one leg. This allows for some creative and gentle dolly tracking shots as the rubber leash acts as a shock absorber to your handling. Literally line up the angle of your shot, and take the dolly for a walk...

No, the Manfrotto 127 Basic Video Dolly is not compatible with the Manfrotto 3021BPRO Tripod (BH #BO3021PB488R). Instead I suggest using the Glide Gear SYL-960 Floor/Track Hybrid Tripod Dolly, BH #GLSYL960.

question

What is the maximum radius of a leg - i.e. what's the distance from the center of the dolly to the leg attachment point?

The maximum diameter shown in the Specifications tab is 44.9 so if the radius is half of the diameter, that would mean 22.45
