Perfect Answer to a problem

Affordable and strong. Got me to be able to do the top down table shots I needed for my client. Definitely glad I bought it. I would love it if this had a tilt-able head built into it. Something simple with teeth locking mechanism to allow the arm to be tilted up or down. Obviously I can connect this to a strong tripod head, but when hanging a heavier camera off the end of this boom, it is pulling a lot of rotational torque at the mounting point, so you need to have a strong head to connect this to. A cleaner approach would be if there was a built in pivot point directly on the bottom of the mounting point of this piece of gear (with teeth rather than a friction lock). Be aware that if you are hanging a full sized DSLR and the boom is extended (past the vertical plane of the front of your tripod legs), even the beefiest of tripods is going to want to fall forward, so invest in a manfrotto counterweight that clamps easily onto your opposite tripod leg. Make the whole situation much more usable.

I love this side arm. I shoot a lot of flat lay images for my social media, product photography, and for stock photos I sell online. Often, the images I shoot are in low natural light and thus holding my camera and shooting is less than ideal due to the slow shutter speeds. So much better with this tool. I did need to purchase aManfrotto Tripod Head separately (I use theManfrotto 804RC2 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head with Quick Release) but the pair are flawless together. I do need to also weight the opposite end of the side arm.

question

I want to use this for rooftop shots in cities. How much weight can it handle. What about combination of Cannon Mark iii & 70-200 mm lens

Unfortunately they do not specify a load capacity because it will vary depending on the tripod you are using and the head. However, if you are using a heavy camera and lens like you mentioned, you should use sandbags or a tripod apron to help stabilize the tripod. Please see the following links:http://bhpho.to/Y3MwpPhttp://bhpho.to/1nOcVhvWith the apron, you can place any weight inside such as your camera bag, a sandbag or rocks. Or you can just drape a sandbag over the leg of the tripod to help keep it from tipping.

question

What kind of tripod would you recommend mounting this to? I need to get a tripod that will allow me to shoot overhead. I primarily use a 50mm lens. Any help/advice on which product(s) to get would be much appreciated!

Any tripod that is tall enough to extend above you, preferably with as little adjustment of the center column as possible. Having a sandbag on a the weight hook under the column (or a clamp weight, in the absence of a hook) will also help immensely. Both of these things will allow you to keep the center of gravity low. And of course, you also want the tripod to be able to support the total weight of your setup. Depending on the height you need, either of these two tripods could be considered:B&H # MA058B ? question

Can 2 of these be attached end to end for a longer reach?
Asked by: Alan
Both ends have male attachments and they are different sizes. Even if you could attach them together you wouldn't get a strong attachment, so the camera would wobble. Plus it would place the weight so far out of the center of gravity that the tripod would fall over.

question

what tripod would work well with this?
Asked by: Rika M.
Get a heavy duty video tripod. Anything else will be too unstable, especially if you're using a DSLR

Asked by: Scott H.
Yes im pretty sure it would work, and I don't think you will need anything else.

question

I have Manfrotto element. Is it possible to,attach that tripod?
Asked by: Osamu G.
Yes, I attach the Manfrotto Side arm to my Manfrotto Befree Travel Tripod. Just unscrew the ball head from the tripod and replace it by screwing in the side arm.
