    Manfrotto 293 reviews

293 Telephoto Lens Support with Quick Release is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 60.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I needed the support!! As a middle school science teacher, I wanted to take pictures of the night sky - especially the moon's phases - to show my students. To do this I had purchased a large telephoto and when I mounted the camera with this large lens to a tripod it was almost impossible to keep the celestial object positioned within the frame. Because the camera and not the lens was being supported, the combination was really unbalanced. When I got the Manfrotto 293 Lens Support The camera / lense combination was totally balanced, easy to maneuver, more stable and allows me to change lens configurations (e.g. use a teleconverter) easily. I also like the ease and security of the quick release tripod mount.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Killer piece of gear This lens support is absolutely essential if you buy older lenses like I do to save money. I recently bought an 80-200 mm Nikon lens which did no have a lens collar. The only collars that I found to allow me to use this lens on a tripod were in excess of $ . Then I found this support from Manfrotto and decided to give it a try. It is wonderful! Strong, easy to operate and versatile are among its virtues. It can accommodate many different lenses, unlike specific lens collars, and it only costs about half what those other lens collars cost. Try it, you will not be sorry!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sturdy and well build, but some flaws Excellent build quality. Sturdy and rigid. Great support of the lens at an affordable price. Disappointed that this can only be used with a Manfrotto quick release on the camera. I am using a Boden tripod, so when changing lenses now, I also have to change the quick release. When using a long heavy lens (I am using Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 with a 2x TC), tripod mount is much too far back to balance the camera and lens. With camera, lens and bracket weighing in at over 3Kg and trying to hold it off center, need a really sturdy tripod and head to hold this item in place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Manfrotto 293 telephoto lens support This is by far the most well designed telephoto lens support I have used. I have never liked lens support rings attached to telephoto lenses because the far end of the lens is always over hanging and free to move, therefore even the slightest movement gets magnified. Manfrotto 293 has a lens support bracket at the far end so my lens is always well supported at both ends (camera end and objective end) which minimizes vibrations to a great extent. Also the whole mount can be adjusted on the tripod as it has multiple screw holes which helps the me adjust the centre of gravity making the entire arrangement well balanced.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Heavey Duty I use this lens support , on my macro stand and on my tripod. I have it placed on top of my motorized rail. I was concerned about vibration shooting super macro shots. Also it takes preasure off of my lens mount on my heavy 7D. Five extension tubes and and my EFS 60mm macro lens plus the camera are held firmly in place. The quick release is also great feature. I also have a quick release under the rail to move the whole setup easly and quickly to my tripod. This is a solidly built piece of gear. Dont hesitate. B&H shipped in 1 day great product and great service. Im Happy..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I didn't know how much I needed this Using the support to use longer lenses created a sort of trapazoid that made everything sharp at any speed. Amazingly this worked better than having the camera directly on the tripod. It also reduced stress on the camera lens mount. I do much at slow shutter speeds and this has helped the look of my images greatly. My only wish with the holder is if it could be made to take slightly shorter lenses as well. Believe me only a tiny point. Thanks again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It Works! It fills the need. Had a number of old telephoto lenses with out the lens collar purchased used. For me, the difference between a photograph and a snapshot is remembering to use a tripod. For longer zooms and 200mm telephotos, hand held just did not work for sharp photos. This fills the need. The Manfrotto quick release pad could be more robust, but adequate for my usage. Would buy it again and the value is excellent. (Note: tripods make wide-angle lenses work better too. You don't know how sharp your lens can be until it's on a good, solid tripod. Fast shutter speeds are not a real answer.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect For Digiscoping I have a Nikon Fieldscope III which has a tripod mount on middle to front part of the scope. I added a Nikon FSA-L1 adapter and Camera for Digiscoping. Using the Fieldscope mount made it back heavy. Using the camera mount made it front heavy. The Lens Support is perfect for this digiscoping solution.
