We installed this and have used it for the past few months and it works very well! I wish that there was an inset for the screws so they would be flush with the metal but that is a minor cosmetic detail.

Would like to swap out for a fluid video head and ...

Would like to swap out for a fluid video head and mount a DSLR with large lens to something like this. Is that doable?

If the camera is very heavy, then the Manfrotto 356 Wall Mount Camera Support with 234 Swivel Tilt Head will not be able to support the camera. I recommend choosing a different product.

I can't say what the maximum would be, but we have a Canon XA20 and a Bescor MP-101 Motorized Pan & Tilt Head mounted on ours and it's rock-solid.
