ZC-9EX Zoom Control is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 53.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tip Top! Pro gear. Smooth take-off and landing, variable speed. But don't forget to unplug the cable when removing the camera from support. If you do (and you will because you don't see it from the left side!) the cable coupling pulls apart, (because it's an add-on adapter specifically for the EX1) sparing you the pain of breaking your 'lens remote' connector. Nice idiot-proof feature.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product for the cost I have now purchased three of these. I just purchased the third one, as the first one that I purchased back in 2008 has finally failed. I keep two on hand, one in my Sony EX3 kit with the regular length cable and one with the Libec Swift Jib 50 kit with the cable extension. This product is great for the price, but I often struggle with getting it to produce a slow zoom when I want to creep in on a close up. It may be just a limitation of the Sony EX3 lens or the ZC-9EX, I'm not sure which, but it is limiting. I especially notice it when I'm using the jib, but that may be just the way in which I use the jib. The bottom line is that it is pretty good for the cost.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from better than Varizoom version for me I purchased the Varizoom version for my EX-1 but was disappointed to find that the method the VZoom uses to secure to my Vinten tripod arm was insufficient. The screws on the VZ were not long enough to fit around the tripod arm of my tripod. The Libec did not suffer from this. They use a different securing method and they also have rubber contact points, which allows securing to the metal part of the arm, along with the usual way of securing to the padded arm grip. I also think the zoom control on the Libec is better.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty good function The ease of changing this from one set to the other is as simple as unscrewing the knob. Very easy. The zoom is small and very functional...another plus! What I wish was better: Rercord button - I wish it was raised a bit more than it is. It is a bit recessed, so working with gloves on will be hard. Stand by mode - either I can't figure it out or there is no way to put the camera on sleep or standby mode. This is a huge dissapointment and the reason for only 3 stars. Had it not been for this, I give it all 5. Maybe I will get some help here if I am missing something!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well, Good value for money. Zoom control works like it should and is professional in look and feel. With a little practice, feathering the zoom is nearly flawless. The cables are strain-relieved on both ends, which will help it's longevity. Unit mounts easily and securely, without having to over-tighten the thumbscrew, on 10-30mm handles. It has rubber pads on the clamp, so it probably won't leave any wear marks on the handle. The control comes with a two-piece cable. The EX1 adapter end separates from the control cable end with a standard Fuji-standard 8-pin connector. An 8-pin Fuji zoom cable will extend the basic cable to whatever length you need, esp useful on cranes or remote placements. There is an included velcro wrap to bundle up extra cable. Camera start/stop also doubles as a Review button. All in all, it's a well-made, compact unit that appears to be made to last.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great zoom control The Libec ZC-9EX beats the heck out of the Sony zoom control on the EX1R. I took a piece of PVC pipe and clamped it to the mic mount on the Sony EX1R and attached the Libec ZC-9EX to the pipe. I angeled it down some so I can toggle it with my index finger. I use the Libec as the on-camera zoom now. No more zoom bumps when starting a zoom. The Libec is a great zoom control.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Met my expectations, Adapter needs work Worked as expected, a bit pricey considering it doesn't have focus control. Comes with an adapter for the EX1, and there is no twist lock for the cable to the adapter or the adapter to the camera? I had to use Gaffers tape to secure the cable to adapter as a cautionary step. Overall it worked fine, and did what it was supposed to.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Satisfied I use the controller in the field and studio. It is well made and afforded me a cost effective solution for my EX1R. The materials used by Libec are sturdy and well conceived. The single screw attachment approach is far superior to another previously owned controller that had two... One point that I dislike, but cannot find fault with at this cost point, is the inability to 'feather' the beginning and end of a push or pull. Once ramped up or down however the movement is very smooth. Overall an excellent investment.
