LensCoat LCG3540LDC overview

  • 1Description

Improve the comfort and functionality of your Gitzo GT3540L, GT3540LS or GT3541LS tripod with the made in the USA, digital camo LegCoat Tripod Leg Protectors 3-pack from LensCoat. It's called a 3-pack because there is one LegCoat for each tripod leg–enough for one tripod. The closed-cell neoprene and heavy-duty padding provide cushioning and cold weather comfort for you, and scratch and impact protection for tripod legs. Touch-fastening fabric facilitates easy installation and removal. This digital camo version provides a computer-generated pixelated pattern that mimics naturally occurring textures and rough boundaries.

    LensCoat LCG3540LDC reviews

LegCoat Tripod Leg Protectors (Digital Camo, 3-Pack) is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent padding, perfect fit I was concerned when I bought a Gitzo 3542L tripod, that it did not come with these protectors. I always have left my camera and lens on my lighter travel tripod and carry the assembly on my shoulder while hiking; that tripod came with foam covers on each leg.So I bought these for the bigger and heavier Gitzo. They fit perfectly to the length of the upper leg of this tripod, they have a length-wise strip of mildly-adhesive glue on the inside, much like that of a Post-It note, that will keep the protector from rotating once held by the Velcro strip. The foam material is more rubbery than pipe coating, with more give for comfort; the Lycra on the outside is strong and well-stitched. The cover also has vertical bands on the inside to hold it to the foam.I don't really notice the weight difference on my shoulder between my 2 lb tripod and these 4 lb sticks because of the protectors, they work very well.Don't get the other LegCoats that are not cut for a specific tripod, they're much thinner in thickness and don't offer much padding. Even the Gitzo brand protectors are made from this same lighter-weight Neoprene material.I laughed when I read in another review how someone felt they could substiture pipe insulators for these protectors. These are well made and the foam is much different from that used on pipes. And use what, Gaffer's tape to hold them on, to a $1000 tripod? They do, however, make the legs thicker and bulkier so that the standard Gitzo 3 series bag is too small in diameter for them. The solution is the great number of larger-diameter and less expensive bags available on the B&H site.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from DIY Cheaper This was my first set of legcoats for my Gitzo 3541LS. They fit well and work, but really are nothing more than curved pipe insulation with some fabric wrap to keep them in place. Not worth the cost.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Frayed ends These are good leg protectors and cushions, with one glaring flaw. I was charitable and gave this a '4' but I really want to give it a 3.5. The ends of the neoprene wrap should be taped with cloth tape. My wraps are 20 months old now and are fairly badly frayed. At some point I may need to replace them just for this reason. For the price of the wraps they should be taped, just like decent dive wet suits are taped to prevent fraying. Other than that they are very good - but if there was something similar taped I would go with that (yes I have a bug about this). My Nikonians branded Op-tec wraps on a much heavier G1410 Series 4 Alloy have lasted over 6 years now with no signs of fatigue. The Op-Tecs may work better on a long folded length tripod like the G1410 than my GT3541LS that has the Leg Coats, simply because of the one size fits all design might be a sloppy fit on a short folded length GT3541LS. Plus, I wanted a camo look rather than black.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Legcoat for tripod I like the added protection not only fron the elements but from being bumped around in my travels. The added padding paid for itself when being carried on my shoulder. Good product to use and have on any tripod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Insurance for your investment Lenscoat makes an awesome product... I have them on all my gear... won't compromise the weight of the tripod...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why didn't I think of that Try carring a large telephoto lens and camera without them...worth every penny!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like it and my shoulder loves it I love the way it feels on both my hands and shoulders. Fits great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Needs Improvement This product is quite flimsy. Although it may offer some protection to the tripod from shock or scratches, it is a dust trap and dose not appear to be be durable. I attached to my Gitzo while on a travel shoot in Nigeria and removed it shortly after due to dust collection.
