Nice heavy duty bag that is able to hold several light stands and umbrellas. The only thing that it is lacking are pockets on the outside to hold hardware.

Padded, but occasionally awkward

Gig cases are often used by musicians, but Photoflex - a photographic lighting and accessory company - provides this case, so the review is edged toward lighting accessories. This is what I purchased it for. Overall the bag is well padded for an non-shelled case, like a Pelican, and provides suitable security for most grip gear, especially smaller light stands, umbrellas and the like. The few complaints I have with it are as follows: 1. It is an odd triangular shape. This is somewhat nonsensical for photographic gear. Because of the taper, it actually provides less space than it would if it were square or rectangular. 2. The divider pad is more of a pain than an aid. If you intend to pack one light stand and a small strobe and some accessories, you're golden. However, most people will find that this case is better suited for more gear than that. Photoflex should have made the padded divider REMOVABLE so as to suite more needs. It is thick and takes away from storage area when you don't want to divide the somewhat limited interior in half(?) 3. Even though it has a polymer base, if you put smaller stands like the Manfrotto nanos or the mini stackers and other accessories, there is a significant bend in the bag if you carry it over your shoulder because of the break between interior articles. If the stand is nearly the full length of the bag, there should be no issue. However, this bag will certainly appeal to the Strobist shooters out there, looking for a place to park their accessories and the typically shorter light stand length may bring this potential drawback to life. NOTE: it is not evident if you carry it by handle straps. The issues is when the long ends of the bag are drawn together over the shoulder forcing the middle of the bag downward. I carry four of the Photoflex Weightbags (empty of course), four Manfrotto Mini Stackers (linked), four Westcott collapsible umbrellas, and four Photoflex umbrella mounts and some bungees with ease. It is a great travel bag and provides more than ample security for such items. I recommend this case if the above mentioned drawbacks (as I see them) do not bother you and you are looking for well-built and helpful grip bag.
