Just what I needed for mounting a laptop case to a tripod. Was the best low profile solution I found.

I've been using a Manfrotto geared head for about 5 years and I am rather fond of the 410PL Plate. I wanted to mount my camera to a 3-axis translation stage, and I thought it would be nice to use the same plate in order to connectorize the camera and make it easily removable. The plate and adapter are made of diecast metal and I could easily drill it for clearance holes in order to mount it to my 3-axis stage. The camera is affixed securely with no perceptible play. I think the bullseye-style spirit levels are not very useful; it would be better if there were two orthogonal tubular spirit levels, IMO.

Bought three to simplify the process of moving my cameras between mounting arms, a tripod, and my stabilizer gimbal. Locks solidly in place, and there is zero wiggle. Will definitely be buying more as my needs expand.

These are as essential as camera batteries

These QR plates are a must have for both photographers and filmmakers. I have lots of them and they've always held up amazingly well. Have been using and abusing them across Alaska and the rest of the country. Don't know what I'd do without these plates. Highly recommended you get lots of them and put the bottom plate on every tripod, monopod, gimbal plate, slider, etc. I also have the top and bottom plate on my Mix-Pre so I can quickly lock it in between the camera and tripod during an interview.

question

Hi, would you be able to tell me how heavy a camera you can safely use the Manfrotto 394 quick release system with? My camera fully rigged is about 25 pounds. Clearly, this wouldn't be a problem when upright, but I'm more concerned about whip pans, using this in a handheld rig, etc. Thanks!
Asked by: Anonymous
According to our Manfrotto Representative the assembly can hold up to 40lbs.

question

2 questions actually...Is the bottom of the adapter completely flat, so that it will be completely flush to the mounting surface, no matter how wide the mounting surface is?Also, after mounting the adapter to a tripod (or other platform) and standing behind the camera (lens pointing away), on which side is the release lever located?
Asked by: Keith S.
Yes it is completely flush on the bottom, and given the setup you just described, the release lever would be on the left.

question

Hi, I own one of these and once the plate is on, it gets rather difficult to push the lever (even without it being connected to anything). Is there anyway to fix this? It's really tedious because i have to put in so much force just to release the plate
Asked by: Fred V.
When you push on the lever to release the adapter plate there is an edge that is rubbing/pressing against an angled surface on the bottom of the adapter plate (that is secured to the bottom of the camera). When using a new adapter plate there is still paint on that portion of the plate where the lever presses/slides. With use a small area of the adapter plate has the paint worn off and the bare metal presents less friction to the rotating/pressing lever than it did when there was still paint on it. To make it easier to remove a new adapter plate (before a worn spot developes in the paint) observe how the tightening/locking lever works to tighten-down the adapter plate and see where the two surfaces press/slide against each other; then put a tiny dab of petroleum jelly on that area (I then took a tissue paper and rubbed most of the petroleum jelly off - you only want the tinest amount possible to reduce the friction of the sliding metal surfaces without making a mess).

question

Has anyone had experience using this as a quick release on a dslr gimbal platform?
Asked by: Tim Z.
We use it as a quick release for our gimbal attached to our UAS carrying a Cannon 5D Mark III. We also use the same quick release for our DJI Ronin M. It can get difficult to release it if you do not have a lot of space between your gimbal arms and camera body. But it works great for us!
