Tiffen Black Pro-Mist Filter (82mm, Grade 1/8)
Key Features
  • Controlled Highlight Flare
  • High-Quality Optical Glass
  • Black Adonized Aluminum Material
  • Lowers Contrast
The 82mm Tiffen Black Pro-Mist 1/8 Filter helps to reduce the value of the highlights while slightly lowering the overall contrast. This filter is especially useful for smoothing out and softening facial wrinkles and other blemishes. While designed for use with movies, this filter can also be used for fashion and beauty applications. Unlike a traditional diffusion or soft focus filter, Pro-Mist filters provide little loss of detail across the image. The 1/8 density provides less contrast and highlight reduction than the 1/4, while still allowing for a soft, pastel-like quality of light.

would a pro mist filter like this reduce the glare off subjects wearing glasses being lit by film lights? would a polarizer or variable nd be better for this purpose? (for eliminating glare in glasses)
Asked by: Kevin
This filter would accentuate the glare if anything. What you want is a polariser.

for shooting slog / flat profiles in 10bit, indoors/less than ideal lighting, would it make sense to get a weaker pro mist, like 1/8?
Asked by: Kevin
The pro mist filter is a filter and really does not have much to do with slog. If you want more of the pro most filter look you use a stronger one. If you do not you use less.

Is this the same glass/optics as the Tiffen 4 x 5.65" 1/8th Pro Mist?
Asked by: Blake
Tiffen does not specify a type of glass for either filter, so it's not possible to say if the glass is identical or not.

i use a uv filter for added lens protection on my lenses. would it make sense to remove the uv filter and leave the pro mist filter on, if i plan to keep the pro mist filter on anyway? (i'd imagine the less of a filter stack, there'd be less flaring issues
Asked by: Kevin
There is no reason to stack the filters. If you are shooting with the Pro Mist, remove the UV. If you arent shooting with the Pro Mist (or any other filter), keep the UV filter on for protection.
