The advanced Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD of the DSC-H50 provides 9.1 megapixels of effective resolution for images with detail and definition to make big prints or crop in tight on your subject. Furthermore, The Super HAD CCD allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise.
Carl Zeiss 15X Zoom Lens
The Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar Lens provides a 15x optical zoom to bring distant subjects closer and lets you frame shots quickly for better composition. The lens also incorporates ED (super low-dispersion) glass, which drastically reduces chromatic aberration, and yields sharp, high contrast images without color fringing. Additionally, the camera is equipped with a Smart Zoom feature that intelligently "crops into" the central portion of your photo, providing up to an additional 81x zoom at VGA resolution while avoiding the image degradation common with digital zoom. There is also a traditional 2x digital zoom to quickly pick up even the smallest detail of your subject.
Super SteadyShot Optical Image Stabilization
Sony's Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization uses optical sensors to detect camera movement and send correcting signals to a stabilization lens to minimizes blur caused by shaky hands, and allows even ultra-long-distance digital photos to capture more detail with less camera shake distortion.
High Sensitivity Mode
The high sensitivity mode (ISO 3200) lets you shoot effectively in low light without flash to preserve the mood, helps to minimize blur, and brightens your images. Additionally, the Clear RAW NR (Noise Reduction) system will take care of the picture noise that can ruin low-light shots.
Color Modes and Color Filter Kit
The camera provides five color modes including the Real mode that enables faithful color reproduction by minimizing in-camera image processing. Five color filter effects including Red, Green, Blue, Warm, and Cool provide the same effects via in-camera image processing that are typically achieved with colored lens filters to provide greater creative control.
Face Detection & Smile Shutter Technology
Face Detection technology automatically controls focus, exposure, color, and flash to help reveal faces in shadows, make skin tones look more natural, reduce red-eye, and eliminate harsh facial glare, so your photos bring out every expression on every face in every shot. The Smile Shutter Mode helps you capture smiles automatically as they happen. Used in conjunction with Face Detection technology, Smile Shutter is able to differentiate between children and adults, and can be set to automatically shoot a picture when your subject laughs, smiles, or even grins. Versatile Exposure Modes
To adjust quickly for specific shooting situations, you can choose from several convenient photo modes, including Auto, Program Auto, and Scene Selections such as Twilight, Portrait, Snow, Fireworks, and Beach environments. The Intelligent Scene Recognition mode automatically detects 5 different types of scenes and selects the appropriate camera setting, plus it has two different modes - the advanced mode takes an image with the standard automatic settings and the other with optimized settings; while the auto mode takes a single shot, utilizing only the optimal settings.
The Bracket Shooting feature provides no only standard exposure bracketing, but also includes settings for white balance and color bracketing as well. For more creative freedom, manual modes (shutter speed priority, aperture priority, or manual exposure), ISO sensitivity control, focus area, and exposure value are all available for the user to adjust as needed.
Advanced Sports Mode
The DSC-H50 includes a sports shooting mode that combines high shutter speed with intelligent continuous AF that responds more quickly to rapid motion to catch the perfect moment in sports, children's games, pet tricks and more.
Long-Distance Flash
The powerful built-in flash provides illumination sufficient to light up a subject over 180' from your camera, with precise light control and the ability to adjust the flash for both front and rear sync when shooting at low-speed sync setting. Plus Auto Daylight Synchro provides effective fill-in flash illumination for backlit subjects.
9-Point Auto Focus
The DSC-H50 can measure auto-focus at 9 points on your screen giving you greater creative freedom to compose your image, with the ability to place your subject off-center in the frame.
Dynamic Range Optimization
Powered by the exclusive Sony Bionz high-speed processing engine, Dynamic Range Optimization (DRO) preserves image data in bright highlights and reveals more detail in shadows or backlit areas for great results even in difficult lighting conditions. NightShot Infrared System

In-Camera Retouching and Red-Eye Reduction
The DSC-H50 has a range of in-camera editing effects available to customize your images. Built in image effects include a soft edge filter to soften backgrounds, a cross filter to place starry "dazzles" at highlight points, a partial color filter to mute surrounding colors and a fish-eye filter to create interesting results. There is also a built-in red-eye reduction feature that reduces irritating "glowing eyes" that can ruin even the most creative photos.
Multi-Resizing Function
Resize your images right in the camera for easy re-purposing - a 9MP 4:3 images can be resized to widescreen 16:9 and 2 MP resolution for display on an HDTV, or convert a high resolution, widescreen 16:9 images to a 4:3 VGA (640 x 480) resolution so your pictures can be easily shared with friends and family via e-mail (internet connection required).
HDTV Compatibility
