    Blackmagic Design CONVMASA reviews

Mini Converter SDI to Analog is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from BMD has not fixed a major issue with this product. A year ago, Nov. 2014, I bought 3 of these SDI to Analog boxes to put on air in a cable facility. When the SDI signal is switched or patched to another signal it loses lock, and goes out of phase, and has lines all up and down the analog picture. The only way to get it working is to pull the plug. I contacted BMD support, I sent them back and they acknowledged the design issue. They wouldn't take them back because it was outside of their 7 DAY RETURN POLICY. I had to replace them with AJA boxes. Apparently BMD has chosen to ignore this issue. On Nov. of 2015 I bought another one and it had the same problem, but worse. This time, 2 out of 3 times it powers up bad. I'm looking for a replacement because I know I'm stuck with these.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not for the Non-Professional This product works as expected, but you need to read the directions carefully. This is not for the average consumer looking for easy plug-n-play technology. You will need to read up on the requirements, make sure you are sending the proper signal, and switch all the dip switches correctly. Also, for the professionals using the device, please remember that this is NOT a scaler. While it can convert the signal, it does not scale or adjust the quality going through the device. This can be a huge pro or con depending on the application you are using this converter for. There are other converter/scalers that would be better if you need to actually scale or size your image as well as convert.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solution Found! My client wanted the signal from a Sony EVI-HD1 Color PTZ Camera to feed a consumer DVD Recorder for in-house recording of activities. I gasped at paying twice the amount of the DVD Recorder to make the digital to analog conversion. I tried other cheaper Converters to make the conversion without any luck. I could have saved myself a lot of time on the install if I would have just bought the Mini Converter SDI to Analog by Blackmagic Design first!Yes, it operates a bit hot. Time will tell if that reduces the life of the Converter. But, my solution to my problem was found. After changing the side-mounted switches to the appropriate settings, the image is excellent with aspect ratio intact. There is no users manual included with this Blackmagic product. And, the switch settings chart on the back of the converter may be confusing to some. But, it is a plug-and-play type of product. When in doubt, just change the switches until the conversion is correct for your equipment. It will only take a minute or two of trial and error before you are satisfied.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works mostly as advertised I got this to enable output from my SDI Kona3 card to my beta deck. It was cheaper than the AJA equivalent, had built in audio and included a power supply. The only trick was with the DIP switch settings. I tried setting the video to betacam levels as I was feeding a betacam deck but it was too high. Using the default RGB setting turned out to be correct for feeding the betacam's component input.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great problem solver ! B&H are pleasurable to deal with. They stand behind what you purchase so well that I tend to 'try' solutions when I would otherwise hesitate. The MiniConverter was not documented by the Comrex and Teradek bonded cellular video kits to convert the SDI output of there decoders into NTSC needed for our production board input. It worked like a charm. All terminals are well labeled and easily set up . Saved a bundle by not having to by an SDI monitor or tie up a multi purpose cross/up / down converter . Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works like a champ! We have a Component Matrix box that allows us to route our media devices to several TV's throughout our studio, but component is the only option, and now we have the ability to route a program feed out of our video switcher to everything and it's all crystal clear!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific product This product works as it should. As long as you're comfortable flipping the dip switches, you'll be fine. I took 1080i HD-SDI and converted it to NTSC analog video in two different situations and had no problem.
