If you mount this item like pictured, what is the point of the velcro? It has no way of latching. It seems like it is supposed to cinch around the mic part itself, but then there's way to much room in the front. Also, am I supposed to leave the foam on?

Hi Noah. The Velcro is designed to provide an extra-secure fit, and the Windjammer is designed for the original manufacturer's foam. It should be possible for the Velcro to stretch around the foam and secure properly, as tested in our factory here at Rycote.
