JMI Telescopes MFNEX6 overview

  • 1Description

JMI Telescopes MOTOFOCUS is a motorized electronic focusing mechanism that affixes to your Celestron NexStar 5 SE, 6 SE, 8 SE, or C6-SGT telescope's focuser.  It pushes on to your Schmidt-Cassegrain's focusing knob without any tools needed, and can be quickly detached for transport.

MOTOFOCUS operates off of a supplied 9-volt battery; with a bit of practice, you'll be able to adjust your focuser in increments much smaller than the width of a business card.  In particular, springing for the MOTOFOCUS gives you much more enjoyable high-magnification viewing from your scope, with finer control over the image and much less user-induced vibrations.

Installs/uninstalls in seconds without tools
Improves viewing experience via finer control of image and more stable viewing time

    JMI Telescopes MFNEX6 reviews

MOTOFOCUS Electric Telescope Focusing Motor is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from No more wiggles I always wanted a motofocus, but never got around to it until today. I have had this for 3 weeks now and it is a godsend. No more wiggles at the focuser. I just simply press one button or the other, depending on whether I want in-focus or out-focus, expecially with a Denkmeier power switch. It may take a few seconds more, but at least the scope is not wiggling from me touching it. I would recommed this item for anyone doing visual observing. When changing eyepieces or slipping in a barlow and then re-focusing, this is one handy item. It may cost a pretty penny up front, but like all astronomy accessories, it is cost effective. Have the item for 10 years and it comes out to 16.90 a year. A great investment!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact & cleverly designde JMI Motofocus is a must, specially when takeing photos with high magnification. It has two speeds, slow & fast. In slow mode it switches to fast after about 5 seconds. Amazingly compact, mounts in an instant with just two screws. Make sure the rubber focusing knob turns freely all the way around. Mine was slightly out of center and rubbed at thebottom collar. Remove extra rubber with a grindig wheel, preferably on a lathe to get a decent job done. It comes with a curled 10 inch cord to connect the hand control unit. I replaced this cord with a self made high flexibility silicon cable to fully eliminate intduced jitter. Made it about 10 feet long to allow comfortable focusing from the remote control computer. I have it on my SkyProdigy 6SCT.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As advertised! No more vibrations when focusing! Easy installation and fit my 8SE perfectly. It even comes with a battery already installed! It may cost a pretty penny, but the ability to make finer adjustments without shaking the image is priceless, especially for imaging. Construction is very solid, except for the plastic piece that covers the gears, but it doesn't affect the performance of the motor. If it really bothers you, you could probably make a more solid replacement fairly easily. When installed, it does remove the ability to focus manually; so, even at its fastest rate, it's not as fast as manually turning the focus knob yourself. So, it may take a little longer to make large adjustments. My only complaint is that it took a while for B&H to get one in stock from JMI, not their fault (but was still frustrating).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would recommend both B&H as well as JMI motofocus. I was hesitant to purchase the focusing motor as no one had a focuser to fit my skywatcher maksutov cassegrain 180/2700 telecope. B&H suggested trying the JMI celestron nexstar 5/6/8 se and if it didn't fix or attach to the existing focusing thumb screw then return the item. However, it fitted perfectly and works like a dream.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ad-on for telescope The motor drive works well in stabilizing the telescope during focus. The only problem I had was the coiled power wire from the controller to the motor causes vibration when extended too far. I went to the store and bought 18 foot extension and hooked it in and all is well again. It is a bit pricey but a must have.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice add-on The moto focuser really gets rid of any vibration caused by focusing manually. It is a must for any visual user. The only thing I didnt like is the cheap plastic motor cover, it would have nicer if it was metal, but this has no influence on what it is supposed to do. Great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I purchased this for use on my Evolution 9.25. It works perfectly allowing me to fine tune my focus and I don't have to touch the telescope so no more shaking when viewing.
