Tiffen Close-Up overview

  • 1Description

The Tiffen 58mm Close-Up Lens Set is a set of three close-up lenses for use in achieving macro-like results with almost any lens you pair them with. Close-up lenses are essentially diopters that you place over your lens in order to lessen the minimum focus distance by the amount specified on the filter. You can combine the filters together to increase their strength and to fine tune your close-up settings.

These filters are constructed from premium ColorCore glass for optical clarity and feature an aluminum filter ring with dual threads for ease when combining with other filters.

These filters decrease the minimum focus distance of any lens, providing macro-like results.
+1, +2, and +4 strengths allow you to vary and modify your desired close-up amount.
Dual threading permits you to combine the filters together or pair with other types of filters.

    58mm Close-up Lens Set is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not the best I normally go with higher end filters since most of my lens are higher end, but since I mostly use Close-Up filters for play' went with this set (they were cheap). There is an obvious loss of quality when using these filters, especially when stacked. They meet my expectations (because of price) but it is clear why there are better options available.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Great Product, no deformity or discoloration to the glass, threads are perfect, I have never had them get stuck together or on my camera. I attach them to 4 lenses: 18-55mm, 55-300mm, 50mm, and a 40mm micro macro. They work great. Auto focus isn't always perfect with these on the 55-300mm lens however I appreciate the challenge of manual focus. Great used individually and stacked, no loss of detail. I use them for extra close shots of nature (bugs, plants, etc) , and pets for the details that we overlook. One minor annoyance was the case they came with, it was a plastic box that was loose around the filters. I didn't feel like it was as secure as I would have liked so I ordered another case with pockets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Work with my Canon Vixia My Canon Vixia HF-G20 HD camcorder lacks macro capability, but is threaded for 58 mm filters. These close-up filters let me get in as close as I like. So close, in fact, that shadows from the camera can become a problem, but B&H sells LED ring lights that also fit the Vixia. With one filter in place you can still use the Vixia's lens hood. The one thing that is not so great is the chincy box box the filters come in. You may want to invest in a filter pouch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The lens set was great!! The lens helps me with remakes of old pictures in gathering history of my family genealogy. It also helps me with making close up pictures of the flowers that I like to take around the house. The lens are easy to put on and off. I check the price with other competitors and B&H was the best that I found for this product. I feel that I will be very happy with this product in much the same way that I have been with the other products that I have bought at B&H.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Macro on the cheap You get what you pay for with this set. I bought 2 to do more than +7 magnification and for quick and easy macro photography it helps out. However if your goal is serious macro with high quality images, look elsewhere. There's quite a bit of haziness at high apertures and stopped down, the quality of the images with one or 2 filters stacked is only marginally better than one from a point-and-shoot. Adequate lighting is definitely necessary. Focusing issues prevalent when trying to figure out the minimum/maximum distance you can be from your subject. Manual focus overriding is necessary. However it's not completely hopeless, you can't go wrong with spending this little to try out macro photography. I was quite pleased to see that I was able to focus on my subjects closer than with the lens alone, and for what it's worth I was pleased with the end results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth while investment I bought this kit as an introduction to macro photography. Not sure what I would be looking for in a macro lens I tried these as an experiment. WOW - I was surprised, my expectations were limited and the tiffen close up kits really performed better than I expected. This kit is very worth while, compact, easy to carry around and great quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty darn good for the price Not sure why the 58mm set was sooo much cheaper than other (even smaller) sizes. So I got this one for my Canon 28-105 3.5-4.5 USM II. Looks good. For super fine technical detail work I'd not recommend this set-up, better to use L glass or prime lenses. But for my experimenting it's great. Also looks good on my Panasonic GH1 shooting video.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tiffen close-up lens set. I use these close-up lens on my canon450d in combination with two lenses and also with an extension tube set.The various combos give me a fantastic range of options to shoot great close-up(s) in difficult conditions ie;where a tripod is useless and under difficult light constraints.
