Tiffen Close-Up overview

  • 1Description

The Tiffen 72mm Close-Up Lens Set is a set of three close-up lenses for use in achieving macro-like results with almost any lens you pair them with. Close-up lenses are essentially diopters that you place over your lens in order to lessen the minimum focus distance by the amount specified on the filter. You can combine the filters together to increase their strength and to fine tune your close-up settings.

These filters are constructed from premium ColorCore glass for optical clarity and feature an aluminum filter ring with dual threads for ease when combining with other filters.

These filters decrease the minimum focus distance of any lens, providing macro-like results.
+1, +2, and +4 strengths allow you to vary and modify your desired close-up amount.
Dual threading permits you to combine the filters together or pair with other types of filters.

    72mm Close-up Lens Set is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I Works! I just purchased a Canon 28-135mm lens for my T2i and I wanted to maximize the macro. It does work. I was able to take closer photos with it. The downside is that these lens can be stacked together to get really close to your subject, but they will reduce the amount of light you get. If your F/stop is smaller than a f/2.8 you will probably have more difficulty shooting in low light or at night with the lens. I tried using these lens at night with a tripod and I had great difficulty shooting my subjects which were coins in a water fountain illuminated by the lights of the fountain. Anyway, these lens much like filters definitely cost much less than buying macro lens. Try it! I think you will like it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Tiffen 72mm Close up kit I tried the lenses individually and stacked over one another during a shoot. The stacking was suggested by the sales clerk . Somehow these lenses did not really work with the DVX-100 and the zoom on the camera got a lot more detail. The clerk had suggested an anochromatic lens instead for the DVX which I believe is correct.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Go for a better quality brand I bought this set about three years ago and have given it very light use. I needed to use one last week, opened up my filter pouch, and found that the lens I needed had fallen apart (lens fell out of the mount and screw thread would no longer tighten properly to hold it in place.) I have been upgrading filters to B&W brand as cash permits, since the quality level (as well as the price!) is so much higher. Best to spend the extra cash, if you can afford to, and buy a quality item you will not need to replace later.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MACRO ON THE CHEAP I have recently converted to digital from film, an am using a Canon T2i, with the 18-135 kit lens. In the past I have used mostly canon equipment dating back to my first which was a Canon 7, I was not satisfied with the capabilities of the 19-135 kit lens for closeup work and being on a tight budget (VA Disability & SS) I can not afford a prime Macro Lens, so I did my due dillegence and researched the alternatives. While extension tubes, and bellows are available, they are somewhat cumbersome to use, and I tried the Tiffen Lens, and was pleasently supprised with the IQ, and relative ease of use. The major shortcomings that I have found is that focus is extremely critical, even a slight breeze on a flower can ruin a shot, but this is true of any Macro shot. Also when stacking the lenses dust can get on the elements which will degrade the IQ, I recommend a through cleaning of each lens when stacking to prevent this. The last negative effect is that there is a noticeable loss of light transmission which can be compensated for by using the largest f-stop possible, and living with a slightly reduced DOF.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked better than expected Placed all three close up lenses togethter to get a +7 lens. Used them to take a time laps set of imagery of algae growth over a 7 day peroid. lenses worked great with a Nikon D300 with an 18-200mm lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Up close and Personal Using with our Blackmagic 4k production camera. Recently shot a jewelry store. Mixed and matched until we got the right look. The footage looks great. I really do not see any abberation although it must introduce some. Solidly built, these stackable close up lenses are a great addition to out kit. I trust this brand and have had good luck in the past with their variable ND filter. Wish the little case it came in was lined and a bit more robust. Have to buy another one...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Meets requirements These provide a handy mix-and-match stack of filters providing from +1 to +5 diopters in unit increments. They won't replace an actual macro lens for serious work... for for the occasional need to get a lot closer than your bare lens they add some real flexibility. I'm glad I bought the set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these What a fun set of lenses! They are useable as individuals or screw them together to make up to +6 magnification. They come in their own nice little case, too.
