The Hoya 58mm HD UV Filter is a general use, clear filter designed to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. Aside from the reduction of unwanted blue casts, no additional coloration or contrast is created, and adjustments to exposure are not required while using this filter. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections while providing over 99.35% light transmission, eight layers of anti-reflection coatings are applied to the glass. These coatings offer a high degree of protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than uncoated filters. The coating formula associated with HD UV filters also promotes effective cleaning with regard to water, oil, and stains.

Constructed from chemically-hardened optical glass, the Hoya 58mm HD UV Filter offers enhanced resistance to scratches while providing clarity and color fidelity. It also features a thin, lightweight, aluminum-alloy filter ring to minimize the potential for vignetting.

This UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Such filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your front lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

58mm HD UV Filter is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 48.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Protect those superb lenses. Bought 2 to protect the L quality lenses on Canon 18x50 IS binoculars which are rain-proof and rubber-armored. In a salt spray environment, I did not want to be cleaning exposed, multi-coated L quality objectives. The filters claim to be water repellant and scratch resistent. They do stand out 3 mm in front of the rubber armor, so be careful not to bash the binocs around. These High Density filters claim to have 4x tensile strength of regular filter glass, so less likely to break if incurring a minor bash. If you have Canon 15 or 18x50 IS binocs, be sure to buy 2 Tamron 58 mm lens caps. They work perfectly and are essential.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What's the light like? I bought this filter for my 70-300mm Canon zoom lens. (Top) filter quality makes a difference, especially when there's lots of glare. The 70-300mm is doomed to the most awful light imaginable, so everything matters. The filter is, well, transparent, as in, I've seen that the lens delivers its claimed quality with no interference. I get nice pix, no matter the haze or the location of the sun.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a good lens needs good protection Whilst not the highest transmission glass (SHMC is slightly better), I figured that the hardened/high density glass should provide some additional protection to my lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for! Pictures are only as good as the camera and lens optics....therefore, I spent the extra money to get a good UV/lens cover and don't regret doing that, because the results are spectacular!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Clear Choice I have bought Hoya clear UV filters to help protect all of my professional lenses for years and have never been disappointed. This filter is a great choice and has a thin lip. The only down side to the thin lip is if you have an item like a expodisc for white balance, you have to hold it in place as the thin rim will not hold the small ball bearing clips in place so it can slip off. I would not call that a defect as that is the way this filter is designed but just thought I would mention it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Filter Here's Why... It's clear, there is no color degredation and I have had no issues with ghosting. Def worth the extra cash I hashed out for it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good with X-E1 and 18-55 lens I can't see the glass in this filter, reflectivity is so low! No problems with it on the Fujifilm X-E1 18-55mm kit zoom!
