Hoya XHD72UV overview

  • 1Description

The Hoya 72mm HD UV Filter is a general use, clear filter designed to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. Aside from the reduction of unwanted blue casts, no additional coloration or contrast is created, and adjustments to exposure are not required while using this filter. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections while providing over 99.35% light transmission, eight layers of anti-reflection coatings are applied to the glass. These coatings offer a high degree of protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than uncoated filters. The coating formula associated with HD UV filters also promotes effective cleaning with regard to water, oil, and stains.

Constructed from chemically-hardened optical glass, the Hoya 72mm HD UV Filter offers enhanced resistance to scratches while providing clarity and color fidelity. It also features a thin, lightweight, aluminum-alloy filter ring to minimize the potential for vignetting.

This UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Such filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your front lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

    Hoya XHD72UV reviews

72mm HD UV Filter is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 66.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hardly Know It's There There is much debate concerning the use of protector filters and their possible impact on image quality. Weigh that against possible damage to a lens which may cost 100x the price of the filter. For me the benefit of protection outweighs any suggested image quality issues, especially when using a high quality filter as the Hoya UV Haze HD. It is of excelent build quality. It is thin and the fine coatings make it virually dissapear. The HD coating is also very easy to keep clean. I want to add that I pruchased this new Hoya HD filter to replace one that safrificed its self to protect my expensive lens that my son borrowed. It is well worth the investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best protection At first I was put off by the cost. But after having these on a 24-70 2.8 and a 70-200 2.8 for nearly two years, I'm sufficiently sold on the superiority that I just automatically order one with any new lens. Incredibly easy to clean. Very tough -- has taken direct hits on furniture and brush, repeatedly shoved into a camera bag forgetting to put on the lens cap, etc., without showing a mark. Coatings make it essentially disappear. Lets me walk around with the caps off of expensive lenses without worrying, which means I catch shots I'd otherwise miss. Well worth the investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crystal clear I have only had this filter on my 50mm 1.2 for two weddings. I was drawn to this filter because it is scratch resistant. There is hardly any glare at all, it hardly seems as though there is a filter on my lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best UV filter on the market This filter replaces a 72mm Hoya HMC UV on my 18-200 lens. Compared to the previous one, the HD is slightly thinner, much easier to clean up and supposedly more shock resistant. The frame is solid metal. Optically, it is great, but that is to be expected from what is basically a piece of glass with coating applied to it. This is a high end product that is priced accordingly. But if you tend to take your expensive lenses out in the field, it is worth the investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mid range UV filter. I've made the mistake of using a Cheap UV filter long ago, and learned my lesson the hard way. The problem was internal reflections and lens flare. I can detect no reflection or added flare at all with the UV Haze HD filter. I'm currently using the filter on a Sony NXCAM video camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works fine This is only Hoya I own (all my other filters are BW), and this is an equally great filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice One! I have added these filters to my mandatory equipment list when making a lens purchase. Yes they are a little more expensive, but L glass and Zeiss ZE lenses are worth it. The added protection is a nice safeguard when shooting at the beaches. They seem to be very neutral and clear. Best part is they require so little care and time to clean when you must.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It seems OK The buid quality is high comparing to others filters I have (marumi, B+W, Hoya, Kenko). I'm having it for a week so I cannot tell more. It's made in Japan and the packagind is HQ. I hope it worths its place: in front of my new Nikon 105 f2 DC.There is no image quality drop @ 36MP (Nikon d800) so I'm happy with it. When in sale it worths the money.
