The Hoya Circular Polarizing HD (High Density) Digital Glass Filter represents the next generation of dynamic Hoya filters.

This filter, with its hardened glass, has 4x the tensile strength of traditional filters of similar fabrication. This filter is also of great use in today's digital market where sensors are more sensitive to reflected light. Hoya incorporates special coatings that reduce these internal reflections and, thereby, promote a clearer, brighter and sharper image.

Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

Note: Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems and video cameras without problems).

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from I own 3 of these I own 3 Hoya HD circular polarizers, and 3 Hoya HD protectors (each of them in 67, 72, and 77mm sizes). I use them with Nikon 16-85mm, 18-200mm, 70-300mm, and Tokina 11-16mm lenses on D7000. The results are excellent. No vignetting on any of the Nikon lenses, even if you stack two filters together. No vignetting on Tokina with one filter. Tokina with two filters gives black corners at 11mm. I tried to use one 77mm polarizer and step-up rings to fit all lenses, but this does not really work well. Rings get stuck, can damage lens treads, make it difficult to remove the lens hood, and are just a pain to use.

    Rated 1 out of 5 by from Comes apart After a few months of use, it came apart into two pieces with a brass ring when I removed it from my lens and I could not get it to screw back together. This offsets all of the operating advantages of the polarizer.

But what I found that not any filter is good such a hi-resolution lenses as Sigma 35/1.4 and Nikon 85/1.8 are. My old low-end Tiffens caused hazy images very often. Then I bought two Hoya HD filters when price has dropped to acceptable value of $... What a difference! Finally, I was able to get amazingly clear details and very even polarising effect (i shoot with Nikon D800).Beside that, they always clear. No fingerprints!

I find myself leaving this filter on the lens in situations when I would normally pull off a polarizer because of the light loss. Will likely purchase the same filter for my other lenses should I ever lose the other less expensive polarizers I own.

I found this filter to be thin, weight and much less impactful on the aperture than my previous filter. I was also very happy with B&H. I was in no rush so I had the filter shipped 'extreme' snail mail and it was still delivered within 4 business days.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from great polarizing filter I needed a polarizing filter to tone down the harsh light that is reflecting from the water. I haven't had the chance to try this one I brought but before I brought this, I borrowed a friend's filter and it helps tone down the reflection of light. One thing is I had a bit of trouble putting it on but eventually I was able to screw it on okay.
