LensCoat LC800 Overview

The forest green Lens Cover for the Canon 800mm f/5.6 IS Lens from LensCoat wraps the lens in a 100% closed-cell neoprene jacket, offering protection from bumps, jars and nicks. This coat allows you to blend in with your surroundings. It is useful for nature and outdoor photographers, as well as sports shooters and photojournalists. This classic forest green camouflage pattern is useful for when you are shooting in wooded areas.

The LensCoat Lens Cover provides a thermal barrier, protecting your hands from the cold lens surface in lower temperatures. It is easy to install and remove, leaving no residue on the lens. It is waterproof, providing protection to your lens in harsh conditions.

As of 12/7/11 the LensCoat for the Canon 800mm f/5.6 includes an optional piece for focus ring.

tricky to put on but worth it

Lens cover comes in pieces with each one needing to be put on. I ended up turning each piece inside out, sliding each on into place with the leading edge of the piece touching the first section to be covered. Then with some effort you turn it correct side out. This way your slide it on with the material and NOT the rubber touching the lens. With the foot of the 800mm lens, I had to unscrew and remove it to get the piece on over the mounting plate the foot attaches to. A BIT tricky to get the plastic window lined up but it does work. I got a used 9+ version of the lens and had to return it as the focus mech kept trying to focus and it had a buzzing noise that didn't stop. I ended up saying, F it and got new. THAT version was quiet as a mouse. For the $$ I spent, I want this lens to stay pristine and this covering will, I hope, do just that. I gave it 5 stars as other than being a bit tough to get on, the item itself is pretty straight forward and does as advertised.

I suspect it will protect from scratches otherwise not much else.
