The D-Code from Holophone is a desktop Dolby ProLogic II surround sound decoder that really simplifies editing material that was recorded with Dolby surround encoded audio. The D-Code is a great time saver for anyone who works with audio that was recorded with the Holophone H4 SuperMINI or PortaMic 5.1 microphones.
Since Dolby ProLogic II audio behaves like normal stereo sound until it's decoded, it can be difficult to work with in post-production if you don't have a device that can spread the audio out to 5.1 surround. With the Holophone D-Code, you simply attach the stereo outputs of the device that recorded the ProLogic II encoded sound (video camera or portable recorder) to the stereo inputs on the front of the D-Code. A Dolby ProLogic II decoder is built into the D-Code, and the unit will output surround audio through its 6 RCA outputs. You can attach a surround sound speaker system or your computer's sound card to the D-Code's RCA outputs.
The D-Code also features a USB port. You can attach it directly to your computer and the D-Code will send 6 channels of surround sound audio directly into your non-linear editing software (such as Final Cut Pro, Vegas, and Premiere). If you're working with ProLogic II encoded audio (which is known as Dolby Surround in consumer lingo), the D-Code can vastly improve your work flow.
