Intuitive Interface
The EX-Z85 can easily be operated with just one hand (Use your thumb to navigate the menus and your index finger for the release button and zoom) plus the arrangement of the operation panel on the display is particularly clear and enables the user to move quickly between the various adjustment features. Users can also customize many of the cameras controls to have quick access to favorite features and functions, and users can choose from six different colors as the color for the menu screens.

The cameras Best Shot scene modes enable selection of the appropriate camera setting for still photos via an easy to understand sample image menu, so you'll be able to take beautiful pictures, regardless of the shooting situation or your particular photography expertise. Simply select the sample scene that resembles the type of image you are trying to record and the camera is configured automatically with the applicable recording mode, Auto Focus setting, and more.
Face Detection and Face Recognition with Auto-tracking AF
The auto-tracking AF system uses motion analysis technology to maintain both sharp focus and correct exposure for a human face, and the combination of face detection technology and the auto-tracking AF system ensures that, once the focus locks on to a person's face, it will stay sharp and maintain the right exposure, even if the person moves; thereby making it much easier to capture beautiful portraits. The Face Recognition function can save up to 6 faces via a biometric mask. The feature then drives the camera to focus primarily on faces which have been saved previously in the family register, and enables you to set "preferences" for certain people when taking a photograph at family celebrations.
Auto Shutter Function
Using blur detection technology, the EX-Z85 can be set to automatically take a photo the instant that camera and/or subject movement stops, even without the need to push the shutter button. This reduces photo blur caused by the movement involved in pressing the shutter. In addition, the Smile Detection Auto Shutter function ensures that you will never again miss that smile when taking photos. Press the release button as soon as you have the faces in the frame, and the photo will then be taken, fully automatically, once the subjects are smiling. There is also a self-portrait shutter mode that takes a shot the moment the user's face fills the frame.
Quick Responsiveness
Once powered on, the camera is ready to take pictures in approximately 1 second, and after the shutter is snapped, pictures are taken almost instantly, with only 0.008 second release time lag. The "Direct On" buttons allow quick startup of both shooting and viewing modes, and the camera also has High-speed image viewing at approximately 0.1 seconds intervals.
Powerful Fast Flash
The Built-in flash has a "Rapid Flash" feature that enables three consecutive flash photos in one second, while the "Soft Flash" function reduces flash brightness when taking close-up flash photos. Furthermore, the "Flash Assist" mode compensates for poorly illuminated areas of the shot.
Wide Format Movie Mode
The EX-Z85 is able to Record movies with sound at broadcast quality using the MPEG-4 H.264 standard that provides an increased compression ratio allowing users to record longer clips without having to sacrifice the quality of their movies, and can continue recording as long as there is memory available. Focus Frames
In addition to the usual rectangular focus frame that is indicated on the LCD monitor, users can choose from frame designs featuring a heart shape or a butterfly, for example. When the scene is properly focused, a clear heart shape is displayed, and when the scene is out of focus the heart shape breaks up. This makes it easy to see when the picture is in focus, and users will enjoy it, too.
Built-in and Expandable Memory
The EX-Z85 has 41.2MB of internal memory so you can start shooting immediately. The storage capacity can also be greatly expanded with a Secure Digital (SD), Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) or MultiMediaCard (MMC), so you can save large numbers of photos and record movies in excess of an hour or more in duration.
