Tamron DA17 overview

  • 1Description

The dedicated Tamron DA17 Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with the 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD lens.

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

    Tamron DA17 reviews

DA17 Lens Hood for 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Lens is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works just fine. As a forgetful old man, I wasn't surprised when I came home and couldn't find my lens hood. I remembered taking it off (I don't remember why) and setting it right next to me, I didn't remember picking it up - most likely because I didn't. I went for about six months when the ocassions of my experiencing lens flair in my pictures began to bug me. This one works (ie it fits on the lens). Since it is now winter in Illinois, I haven't had the opportunity to shoot in the sun since I got it, but I'm sure it will do as good a job as the original.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! This product is as good as the Nikon name brand equivalent. Even better since is costs much less. I would recommend this over the name brand... unless you are into name brand matching. Then by all means spend more money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Helps with glare For some reason, my lens never had a hood and I struggled in bright light. This hood has helped quite a bit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Far better than expected! When I got my lens it didn't come with the hood (second hand) and I am very used to have my lenses with their lens hood (for added protection, occasional coverage from lens flare and a more professional look) I was hesitant about getting a third party lens hood mainly because I didn't trust that it wouldn't get in the way while shooting or that it actually provided the extra protection for the front element, but the main reason was because I wouldn't be able to reverse it and screw it in the lens for easy transportation: it would require more space in my bag, and I don't like carrying big bags for everyday use. While the third party hoods ranged from 3-7US I opted for the original one as soon as I found it on B&H. When I received it I was very pleased with the quality of the construction. I was honestly expecting a cheap, flimsy plastic, but I was wrong. It has creases to help you grip it and attach it safely to your lens, it snaps quickly, smoothly, nicely, and safely. I love how I can reverse it onto the lens. The only problem with that is whenever I try to unscrew it to use it, the focus ring turns and the lens extends to the maximum focus distance. But apart from that I am more than pleased with this product.
